Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company,is seeking a talentedprincipalmechanical engineer withexpertisein mechanical engineering,water treatmentequipment design and testing tojoinour innovation efforts and support our customers in the Global High Tech(GHT)industry. We areestablishinga dedicated EU GHT RD&Ein Leiden, the Netherlands.The PrincipalMechanicalEngineerThis role will lead hardware design and development innovation projects for our Data Center portfolio, communicate regularly with the field/customers/business leaders, design/test/implement new hardware design, and ensure a robust pipeline for new products and platforms that help our customers solve complex hardware problems.We are seeking a candidate with a strong technical background, who is ‘hands-on,ideallywithpractical fieldapplication experience, who is self-motivated, enjoys versatilityandwork across different topics and projects, has a desire for collaboration and is a creative problem solver.

The main responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Manage and drive projects that deliver unique datacentrehardware solutions

  • Supportdesign and testing ofwater treatmentmonitoringsystemsfor Data Center and Microelectronics customers

  • Design,testandvalidateequipment(both in lab and field) ensuring compliance with reliability, acoustics,powerand thermals.

  • Develop solutions to complex research problems requiring creativity and ingenuity. 

  • Ensure protection of Nalco Water intellectual property through patenting, licensing, and joint development agreements.

  • Collaborate with a diverse, cross-functional team of sales leaders, researchers, industry technical consultants, functional business partners, and OEM partners to developnew ideasthat solve difficult problems related to water usage and energy efficiency in Data Centers.

  • Collaborating with a global team, various functions as well as potential 3rd parties on the development of technologies that meet customer needs.

  • Identifyingand understanding customer needs and challenges withinthe GHTindustry(through field visits, engagement with customers and industry experts) and using these learnings andexperiencetosupport the development of theEU innovation roadmap.

  • Provide technical support to sales and customers which includes but not limited to, technical training, application guidance, technical exchange,trouble-shooting, field visits etc.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree or advanced degree in mechanical engineering, or related discipline: BS and 5+ years; MS and 3+ years or PhD (recent graduate or 2 years related experience).

  • Experience in 3D CAD (Solidworks, Creo, etc..) and FEA tools.

  • Experience inhands onmechanical design, DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and validation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse project team.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving.

  • Industry / field experience in cooling water treatment (open-recirculatingandclosed) cooling water treatmentand / or effluenttreatmentis an advantage

  • Experience in the GlobalHigh Techindustry (and associated cooling technologies such as Direct to Chip cooling, Adiabatic) is an advantage

  • Self-starter, who is willing to learn and has a‘hands-on’ approach

  • Good communicationskills; with the ability to deliver complex information in an easy-to-understand format

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Works well under pressure

  • Proficiencyin English (both written and verbal)required

  • Willingness and ability to travel10-30 % of the time
