We are looking for an experienced R&D Manager to lead a software engineering team delivering mission-critical telco products used by mobile operators worldwide.
The role combines people leadership, technical ownership, delivery management, quality focus, and cross-functional coordination. You will manage a team of software engineers working on complex telecom platforms, ensure predictable delivery, drive engineering excellence, and contribute to product evolution in a cloud-native environment.
This is a leadership role for someone who understands software development, can work with senior engineers, product teams, QA, architecture, support, and customer-facing teams, and is able to translate business priorities into clear engineering execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Own planning and execution of R&D activities within the assigned product area.
- Ensure delivery of features, fixes, technical improvements, and customer commitments.
- Manage priorities, risks, dependencies, capacity, and delivery milestones.
- Work closely with Product Management, Architecture, QA, Support, Program Management, and Operations.
- Support technical decision-making together with architects and senior engineers.
- Drive improvements in product quality, test coverage, automation, CI/CD, and release readiness.
- Promote engineering excellence, maintainability, scalability, security, and operational stability.
- Reduce technical debt, repeated defects, and field issues through structured root-cause analysis.
- Support modernization toward cloud-native, containerized, and Kubernetes-based deployments.
- Communicate progress, risks, and priorities clearly to internal and senior stakeholders.
- Build team competence, ownership, accountability, and long-term product knowledge.
Job Requirements
- Proven experience in software engineering, technical leadership, or R&D management.
- 3+ years in a team lead or engineering manager role
- Experience leading development teams in a complex product environment.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, release management, and quality processes.
- Ability to manage priorities across roadmap, maintenance, customer issues, and technical debt.
- Strong communication skills in English. Fluent in Czech.
- Ability to work with senior technical experts as well as business stakeholders.
