R&D LAB TEST TECHNICIAN

Pay Range: $25.00 - $35.00

SUMMARY:

B&E Manufacturing Company is in the business of manufacturing precision quality AN, AS, MS, and NAS hydraulic tube fittings, used in conjunction with Aerospace, Commercial, and Military applications. In addition, we also design and manufacture specialty type fittings and Machining parts in accordance with customer supplied drawings, specifications, and specific application.

The R&D Lab Technician should be familiar with aerospace standards and procurement specifications, and be familiar with the necessary equipment to perform without assistance the required mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic tests on prototype or production fluid fitting connections in the research and development. Tests new products according to established procedures and takes active part in developing of new test and design validation procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have or develop strong knowledge of company products.
  • Inspects test parts to ensure their compliance to the applicable drawings and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures and sampling plans.
  • Prepares, set-up complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions in accordance with the established test procedures/plans, perform all tests associated with mechanical and hydraulic instruments as available in the R&D lab, and accurately record the test results for the following types of testing to ensure conformance to design, performance and quality requirements and/or specifications:
  • Pneumatic pressure testing
  • System pressure testing
  • Hydraulic proof and burst
  • Flexure fatigue (rotary flexure) testing
  • Torsion testing
  • Overtightening testing
  • Hardness testing
  • Repeated assembly testing
  • Conductivity testing
  • Salt spray/stress corrosion testing
  • Thermal shock
  • Lightning strike testing
  • Vibration testing
  • Fire testing
  • Other tests as required by customer or procurement specification
  • Recognize and take action on any equipment/instrumentation that requires calibration or repair, and perform preventative maintenance as required.
  • Review timelines and discuss scheduling conflicts or modifications with laboratory management.
  • Keep lab management updated on progress of testing and any pertinent observations or testing deviations.
  • Monitor the lab stock of consumables required for testing (strain gages, tubing,…).
  • Performs data calculations. Takes photo and micrographs.
  • Assists R&D engineers by writing laboratory test reports accurately.
  • Assists in developing and writing new laboratory test procedures and work instructions.
  • Reports any safety violation, test equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to direct management immediately.
  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • All employees are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Supports and maintains waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as EMS and recycling opportunities to elimination of production waste.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and procurement specifications.
  • Understanding of test equipment and lab procedures.
  • Knowledge of air and fluid mechanical systems, hydraulic test stands, and electronic controls.
  • Confirmed understanding of basic mechanic hand tools (i.e. screw drivers, wrenches, drills, saws, etc.)
  • Prior experience in fluid systems and pressure vessel industry is desired.
  • Completion of college level mathematics, material science or mechanical engineering a plus.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic mainframe computer systems and familiar with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) Ability to perform these operations using units such as force, torque, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
