About the role

We are looking for a curious, passionate, and driven Packaging R&D Intern to join our Packaging team for Europe and support our work on developing and improving sustainable and functional packaging solutions.

In this role, you will dive into the science behind packaging materials, structures, and interactions with food products, supporting the optimization of packaging. You will work on packaging solutions for Europe and contribute to research focused on improving the design, consumer experience, and sustainability.

You will gain hands-on experience in the lab, supporting the development and testing of packaging concepts. You will conduct material evaluations, perform testing, support pilot plant and lab trials to ensure packaging performance meets the requirements. The project will focus on researching and testing packaging materials and understanding how different choices influence product quality and functionality.

You will test new packaging structures, evaluate materials, support trials, perform analytical testing, and share your findings with the team through presentations. You will also interact with different stakeholders such as the factory, product development and marketing teams. You will take part in the intern challenge, collaborating with other interns on a shared project during your internship.

So, what does it take to be successful in this role?

  • You are a Master’s student in Packaging Technology, Food Technology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a similar field at a Dutch or European university.
  • You are enrolled as a student for the full duration of the internship.
  • You are detail-oriented, resilient, hands-on, curious, and eager to learn.
  • You have strong analytical skills to interpret experimental data and translate results into insights.
  • You are comfortable working with lab equipment and performing hands-on experimental work.
  • You are adaptable and have a collaborative spirit to work effectively within a dynamic, multicultural team.
  • It is a plus if you have prior knowledge of packaging materials, barrier properties, sustainability, recycling, and/or food–packaging.
