Job Description

At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.

A Day in the Life

As an R&D Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and enhancing production processes for advanced medical devices. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will drive world-class product manufacturability by developing and optimizing processes using Lean Six Sigma methodologies, with a strong emphasis on cost efficiency and consistency. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work hands-on with high-tech, automated manufacturing technologies such as laser cutting, laser welding, assembly, and (optical) measurement systems. You’ll assess and improve product manufacturability by building and testing prototypes, as well as collaborating on product design modifications. Overall, you’ll be involved in the evolution of production processes throughout all stages of product maturity—from initial concept through to market launch.

You are a smart, eager and result driven engineer who thinks in terms of solutions rather than problems. You present your ideas convincingly and to the point. Collaboration is in your nature, and you value different opinions and perspectives. You have strong analytical skills, and you can suggest out-of-the-box solutions. You show a strong sense of ownership.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes for advanced medical devices to ensure high product quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
  • Successfully perform process validation activities through a thorough understanding of process input–output interactions
  • Work hands-on with high tech manufacturing technologies such as laser cutting, laser welding, automated assembly, and optical measurement systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., design engineering, quality, and manufacturing) to support product design improvements and process readiness
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies to analyse production processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement sustainable process optimizations
  • Support the transfer and scaling of manufacturing processes from concept and development phases through validation and market launch
  • Document, analyse, and communicate technical results, ensuring alignment with project milestones, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Mastering the Dutch & English language
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Hands-on mentality, ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Preferably lean six sigma qualified (yellow belt or green belt).
