The Opportunity

We are looking for a Junior R&D Electrical Engineer to join our Global Multi‑physics Simulation Team within the Transformers business. In this role, you will support the development of advanced dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers by performing circuit‑level, electromagnetic, and multi‑physics simulations.

You will work in a global, cross‑functional R&D environment with strong interaction with engineering, testing, and product development teams, contributing to a shift‑left approach where simulations are used to predict product performance early in the development cycle and anticipate factory test results.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Perform circuit‑level, electromagnetic, and multiphysics simulations of all typical performance measures of dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers, in accordance with relevant international standards (e.g. IEC, IEEE).
  • Evaluate transformer performance parameters such as losses, impedance, leakage fields, short‑circuit forces, inductances, and transient behavior using circuit‑level and electromagnetic finite-element (FEM) simulations.
  • Apply circuit‑level, electromagnetic, and multi‑physics simulations to support a shift‑left development strategy, aiming to predict the outcome of Factory Acceptance Tests early in the design phase and reduce design iterations, testing effort, and development risk for dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers.
  • Develop and maintain automation tools and simulation workflows for circuit‑level, electromagnetic, and multiphysics simulations, explicitly focused on early design validation and FAT prediction.
  • Develop new multi‑physics simulation methodologies by coupling circuit‑level and electromagnetic models with: Structural mechanics simulations, Thermomechanical simulations, Acoustic simulations
  • Support feasibility studies, development of new technical concepts, and simulation‑based assessment of new technologies and product variants related to dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers.
  • Contribute to the design and performance prediction of dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers.
  • Support and organize prototyping and testing activities to validate simulation models and new technologies.
  • Support product and technology development projects, contributing to delivery in line with agreed scope, time, cost, and quality.
  • Support the transfer of technology and know‑how from R&D to Engineering by:, Writing design rules and technical guidelines, Preparing and delivering internal technical trainings, Collaborating closely with design tools and engineering teams
  • Provide technical support to other departments (Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Sales) when required.

Your background

  • M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Initial professional experience in electrical engineering, preferably with exposure to transformer design, is an advantage.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in circuit theory, electromagnetics, and transformer physics for dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers.
  • Preferred: knowledge of transformer performance prediction, including: Impedance and transient behavior, Leakage fields, Stray and no‑load losses, Short‑circuit forces, Mutual inductances and related parameters
  • Preferred: experience with electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) using one or more tools such as: ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL Multiphysics, Altair Flux, FEMM, other EM FEM‑based tools
  • Preferred: experience or familiarity with circuit‑level simulation tools, such as: LTspice, PSpice, Ansys TwinBuilder/Simplorer or equivalent circuit simulation environment
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language:, Python, MATLAB, C#
  • Exposure to or interest in electrical testing of dry‑type and liquid‑filled distribution and traction transformers is an advantage.
  • Basic project management capabilities and willingness to take ownership of tasks.
  • Action‑ and results‑oriented mindset combined with strong analytical skills.
  • Innovative spirit and motivation to apply simulation‑driven, “out‑of‑the‑box” approaches.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
