We are looking for an R&D Director (m/f/d) for our new India SW Lab. The India SW Lab aims to participate in growth and momentum of the Indian semiconductor ecosystem and to advance our products and solutions as a core component of the global Advantest R&D organization. In the position of the R&D Director India SW Lab (m/f/d) you will lead all technical aspects for setting up, growing and constantly delivery results for our India SW Lab. The India SW Lab will play a key role in the global Advantest R&D organization.

This role is intended for technical leaders with experience building and growing SW development teams with a strong focus on technology, trends, and technical guidance of the individual teams. It is onsite only in Bangalore, India.

What you will do as an R&D Director India SW Lab (m/f/d):

• Build and lead the engineering aspects of the India Software Lab: hire, develop, and retain senior engineers and engineering leaders; set a high hiring bar and strong engineering culture
• Provide technical leadership: drive architecture/design reviews, unblock complex technical issues, and coach teams in day-to-day engineering execution
• Establish scalable engineering standards: code quality, CI/CD, test automation, reliability, observability, and secure development practices
• Cooperation with Advantest BUs – ensure delivery of working packages by India SW lab according to defined success criteria
• Build a partner strategy in India with clear quality gates and accountability
• Advise on technical strategy considering the ecosystem in India

Essential Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in SW, high tech, semiconductor industries
• Engineering leadership: Demonstrated experience of building and leading engineering organizations (hiring, coaching, developing leaders, performance management).
• Hands-on technical depth: Ability to personally assess architecture and design, guide implementation approaches, and raise the engineering culture with focus on getting things done with high quality
• Engineering efficiency: Proven ability to establish operating mechanisms that scale (planning cadences, metrics, governance, cross-team dependency management).
• Cross-org collaboration: Experience aligning multiple stakeholders and translating demand into tangible actions and outcomes
• Communication: Ability to discuss complex topics with stakeholders based on facts and to align globally distributed teams

• Strong written/verbal communication in English
• Flexibility to travel to other locations in India and world-wide Advantest locations. International travel is not frequently required

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• India market expertise: In-depth understanding of India’s software market and ecosystem
• Strong experience in SW for complex embedded systems covering the full stack from HW to cloud
• Semiconductor / test / EDA knowledge: Experience with semiconductor software, test ecosystems, EDA/DFT communities
• Partner cooperation: Strong track record managing external engineering partnerships
• Products & Platforms: Experience building products, developer platforms/tooling in a scaled engineering environment.
• Experience working in scaled agile or large engineering organizations
• Experience in regulated environments (e.g. automotive, medical, aerospace)

German and/or Japanese and/or Chinese language skills are a plus
