Job Description

We are Reckitt

Home to the world's best loved and trusted hygiene, health, and nutrition brands. Our purpose defines why we exist: to protect, heal and nurture in the relentless pursuit of a cleaner, healthier world. We are a global team united by this purpose.
Join us in our fight to make access to the highest quality hygiene, wellness, and nourishment a right and not a privilege.

Research & Development

In Research and Development, we're full of highly skilled talents that include Scientists, Engineers, Medical, Clinical and Regulatory professionals - all working to create a cleaner, healthier world. With nine Centres of Excellence, we continually seek out new opportunities by using science, our entrepreneurial flare and our fearless innovation to develop and enhance our existing portfolio, never compromising on quality or performance.

We do the right thing, always, by ensuring we act with responsibility and integrity, by complying with regulatory legislation across the globe, whilst ensuring our products are safe for our consumers and are to the highest quality.

The size of our organisation means you'll have the opportunity to learn and work in different functions within R&D, giving you exposure to different disciplines, teams and environments. You will also have access to our Research and Development Academy, designed to develop our team and allow you to grow in our great organisation.

About the role

The R&D Assistant supports the development of new products across different areas of the Durex R&D portfolio. In this role, you’ll help take ideas from the early design or IDB stage all the way through to full production and market launch. Depending on the project, you may lead fast‑track initiatives or manage specific workstreams within larger technical programs.
To succeed, you’ll need strong organisational skills, the confidence to work independently, and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. The role involves hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving, and taking ownership of key parts of the development process.

Your responsibilities

  • Support all technical aspects of product development to ensure activities are completed on time, highlighting any risks or issues to your line manager as early as possible.
  • Work closely with internal and external cross‑functional teams to make sure all technical milestones are met throughout the project.
  • Coordinate factory line trials and oversee the required R&D qualification testing and validation before product launch.
  • Ensure all product specifications and internal documentation are fully completed, approved, and ready ahead of full production start‑up.
  • Stay consumer‑focused by understanding behaviours and preferences across different regions, and translate these insights into meaningful product design and development decisions.
  • Balance formulation and product performance needs while meeting challenging cost targets.
  • Develop strong and repeatable evaluation methods that support credible, consumer‑relevant product claims.
  • Consider all intellectual property requirements throughout the development process to protect innovation.
  • Prepare, approve, and circulate clear technical reports at each stage of product development.
  • Ensure all development activities comply with legislative, health & safety, and environmental standards.
  • If applicable, provide guidance and line management support to one or more R&D Assistants, helping them grow and develop in their roles.

The experience we're looking for

  • 1–3 years’ experience in product development within an FMCG or chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with formulation, process development, or product testing, including lab work and data analysis.
  • Exposure to pilot plant or factory line trials, including scale‑up, qualification, or validation activities.
  • Experience working in cross‑functional teams

The skills for success

  • A relevant scientific discipline such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or Cosmetic Formulation
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills to interpret data, troubleshoot issues, and deliver technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and communicate clearly in English.
  • Good project and time management, able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Technical learning agility, with curiosity and the ability to quickly understand new technologies, processes, and testing methods.
  • High attention to detail and quality, ensuring accuracy in documentation, testing, and product development activities.
