Job Description

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

Micron is undergoing a historic expansion with a new fabrication facility in Boise, ID, and we are building a strong remote technical network to accelerate capability, ramp readiness, and line health. We are seeking a Lead Metrology & RDA Applications Engineer to provide technical leadership and operational ownership across metrology and inline optical inspection (RDA) while working remotely from Taiwan in direct support of the Boise fab.

In this role, you will lead measurement and inspection strategy, drive tool and recipe readiness, and ensure data quality and process control for high-volume manufacturing (HVM), production ramp, and technology development. You will work hands-on with advanced metrology platforms (e-beam, optical, x-ray, etc.) and RDA optical inspection toolsets (eScan/Brightfield/Darkfield/Macro/SP) to develop robust line monitors, establish statistical controls, detect excursions early, and reduce defectivity.

You will partner closely with Process Integration, Manufacturing, Process Development, Equipment Engineering, Yield, and Data/Automation teams across Boise and the global network to standardize best-known methods, enable effective tool matching, and ensure scalable solutions for ramp and long-term sustainment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for metrology + RDA strategy, sustainment, and readiness within assigned technology areas.
  • Own end-to-end readiness: recipe maturity, measurement methodology, standards, control plans, and monitor strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional execution for production support, qualifications, conversions, and ramp activities, including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Mentor and guide engineers/technicians; provide technical coaching and ensure consistent execution.
  • Communicate clearly to technical and leadership stakeholders: status, risks, decisions, and recommendations, including remote coordination across time zones.

Applications Engineering (Metrology + RDA)

  • Develop, validate, and maintain metrology recipes and measurement methodologies to quantify wafer fabrication performance.
  • Develop and sustain RDA optical inspection recipes and applications across eScan / Brightfield / Darkfield / Macro / SP platforms.
  • Establish and improve SPC methods, baseline health metrics, and monitor plans that detect process drift and excursions early.
  • Recognize, isolate, and escalate process anomalies; drive containment and corrective actions with the appropriate teams.
  • Lead or contribute to PMI and qualification activities: documentation, data validation, readiness checklists, and sign-off artifacts.

Measurement Quality / Data Integrity

  • Own and improve measurement quality: accuracy, precision, GRR, tool matching, reference validation, and monitor performance.
  • Identify and resolve metrology/inspection-related issues impacting manufacturing flow, data integrity, or process control.
  • Drive improvements in data utilization, automation, dashboards, and analysis workflows to increase speed-to-learning and decision quality.

Continuous Improvement / Standardization

  • Drive continuous improvement in metrology and inspection processes to reduce defectivity and improve yield KPI performance.
  • Collaborate with the global network to develop best-known methods, standardize approaches, and maintain alignment between sites.
  • Improve and expand monitoring strategies to support future technology development and toolset differences between sending and receiving fabs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related technical field
    (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor metrology and/or inspection (RDA) in HVM, manufacturing, or technology development environments
(experience range can be adjusted to match level expectations)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions for accurate, precise measurement/inspection and implement sustainable controls.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor processing fundamentals and defect/yield concepts.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., JMP, Spotfire, Tableau, or similar).
  • Ability and willingness to learn/apply data manipulation / scripting / automation fundamentals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to influence cross-functional teams remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Prior experience as a technical lead (formal or informal) guiding strategy, priorities, or mentoring.
  • Strong foundation in measurement science: SPC, GRR, tool matching, reference systems, accuracy/precision tradeoffs.
  • Experience developing and sustaining recipes across:
    • Metrology: e-beam systems, optical metrology, x-ray methods (as applicable)
    • RDA inspection: eScan, Brightfield, Darkfield, Macro, SP platforms
  • Demonstrated experience driving standardization, best practices, and continuous improvement across teams/sites.
  • Experience partnering directly with equipment vendors and leading escalations to closure.
  • Proven track record supporting technology transfers, conversions, toolset differences, and production ramps.
