Responsibilities
- Lead railway signalling system and software engineering activities across the complete lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, development, integration, verification & validation (V&V), and commissioning support.
- Act as a SME in railway signalling, providing technical leadership on software engineering activities, with good knowledge of systems like ERTMS, DTG-R and other signalling system for mainline and metros.
- Own and drive system-to-software integration, ensuring seamless translation of signalling system requirements into software requirements, design, implementation, and verification.
- Provide technical leadership for safety-critical signalling projects, ensuring compliance with applicable railway standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements.
- Lead technical discussions with customers, stakeholders, OEMs, and internal engineering teams; understand customer needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Present and demonstrate signalling system and software capabilities to customers and stakeholders, including technical solutions, architectures, methodologies, competencies, and project experience.
- Support customer engagements, technical proposals, RFPs/EOIs, capability presentations, solutioning, and presales activities.
- Drive technical reviews, design discussions, V&V strategies, issue resolution, and technical risk mitigation.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams in software engineering, signalling, V&V, and safety-critical development practices.
- Collaborate with global teams/front offices and act as the technical interface between engineering teams and customers/stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement of engineering processes, development methodologies, testing strategies, and technical capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Essential skills
- Strong hands-on experience in both Railway Signalling System Engineering and Signalling Software Engineering.
- Proven experience as a technical SME / technical lead in safety-critical railway signalling projects.
- Strong expertise in Railway Signalling, Interlocking (EI/CBI), ETCS, CBTC, ATP and ATO.
- Good understanding of system architecture, requirements engineering, software development, integration, testing, V&V, commissioning, and RAMS.
- Strong knowledge of SDLC, software development lifecycle models, V-model, Agile/Hybrid development methodologies, and safety-critical engineering processes.
- Strong knowledge of testing techniques, test strategies, verification methodologies, test automation, and system/software integration testing.
- Good knowledge and practical experience of EN 50128, with an understanding of related railway safety standards such as EN 50126 and EN 50129.
- Experience with engineering and lifecycle management tools such as IBM DOORS, Polarian, Jira, Git, and development/testing tools.
- Ability to Analyse complex signalling requirements and establish system-to-software traceability.
- Experience working with major railway OEMs such as Alstom, Siemens Mobility, Hitachi Rail, Thales, Wabtec, or equivalent signalling organizations.
- Strong customer-facing and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to independently lead technical discussions and presentations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex signalling concepts and technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work with distributed/global engineering teams and coordinate effectively with customers, front-office teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
