Road & Rail Services is seeking a skilled Railroad Carman for our Paris operation. This position is responsible for examining railcars, identifying mechanical issues, and completing repairs using welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment.
This opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, takes ownership of their work quality, and can operate safely with limited supervision in an outdoor industrial setting.
As a Railroad Carman, you will help keep rail equipment safe and service ready. Your daily assignments may include:
Inspecting railcars for damage, wear, and mechanical problems
Completing stick-welding and metal-fabrication work
Cutting and shaping metal with torches, grinders, and related equipment
Using wrenches, ratchets, hand tools, and other repair equipment
Operating railcar end doors during inspection and repair activities
Determining the repairs needed and completing authorized work accurately
Maintaining tools and keeping the work area clean and organized
Following all company, customer, and industry safety requirements
We are looking for a dependable person with hands-on welding, fabrication, or heavy mechanical experience. Previous railroad experience is beneficial but may not be required for candidates with transferable industrial skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience with stick welding
Knowledge of cutting-torch operation and metal fabrication
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
Experience safely using common hand and power tools
Ability to complete assignments independently and contribute to a team
Reliable attendance and a safety-first approach
A valid state driver's license may be required when operating company vehicles or equipment.
This is an active outdoor position performed around railcars and industrial equipment. Candidates must be able to:
Stand and walk for extended periods
Frequently bend, squat, reach, and twist
Apply substantial force when pushing or pulling heavy railcar doors
Climb ladders and safely perform work at heights above 16 feet
Work in heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions
