Pay: $17.00
Location: Avon Lake, Ohio
Job Type: Full-time

Road & Rail Services is hiring a Railcar Inspector / Prep Technician to prepare rail equipment for safe, efficient transportation. This hands-on position combines railcar inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance support in an active outdoor work environment.

The right candidate will be dependable, attentive to detail, and committed to following established safety procedures. Welding, mechanical repair, industrial maintenance, or similar hands-on experience is preferred but not required.

Primary Responsibilities

Examine railcars for visible damage, wear, fatigue, and other conditions that may affect serviceability

Clean railcar interiors and exterior work areas using backpack blowers, scrapers, and other assigned tools

Remove dirt, debris, residue, and potential contaminants before railcars are released

Assist with opening, inspecting, and closing railcar end doors

Identify conditions that may require mechanical attention or additional repair

Report damage, equipment concerns, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor

Maintain control of company-issued tools and equipment

Inspect tools before use and immediately report damaged or missing items

Follow customer requirements and company work instructions

Comply with applicable workplace and rail-industry safety standards

Wear all required personal protective equipment

Keep assigned work areas orderly and free of avoidable hazards

Support other railcar preparation and facility duties as assigned

Qualifications

Valid driver's license

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

Dependable attendance and punctuality

Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail

Ability to work effectively with supervisors and other team members

Willingness to perform physical work in an outdoor industrial environment

Experience with welding, fabrication, mechanical repair, rail equipment, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance is a plus.

Physical and Work Environment

This job is performed primarily outdoors around railcars, tools, and industrial equipment. Employees must be prepared to work in changing weather conditions and remain physically active throughout the shift.

The position may require extended periods of standing and walking, as well as bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and using hand or powered tools. Employees must be able to safely operate assigned equipment and properly wear all required PPE.
