General Summary:
Provides maintenance planning, scheduling, coordination, and work control support for Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) and fleet operations. Responsible for developing and maintaining preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, overhaul schedule, prioritizing work orders, coordinating labor, materials, and technical resources, and monitoring fleet availability and maintenance performance. Ensures maintenance activities support safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant rail operations. Works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Materials Management, and Operations within a 24/7 public transit environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, schedules, coordinates, and monitors, overhaul, preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) and corrective maintenance activities for Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs), Streetcar and related fleet systems.
Reviews, prioritize, and schedules maintenance work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), primarily IBM Maximo based on defects, inspections, reliability trends, and operational requirements.
Develops daily, weekly, and long-range maintenance schedules to support service requirements and fleet availability.
Monitors fleet availability, vehicle downtime, maintenance backlog, and work order status; adjust schedules to meet service, reliability, and safety goals.
Coordinates maintenance activities with Maintenance Management, Supervisors, Engineering, Operations, and other internal stakeholders.
Coordinates with Materials Management and Warehouse personnel to ensure availability of parts, tools, components, and materials required for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
Reviews vehicle maintenance history, inspection results, and failure trends to improve maintenance planning and fleet reliability.
Communicates maintenance plans, schedule changes, and fleet status to Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations personnel.
Maintains accurate maintenance records, asset data, and work order status within the CMMS/EAM system.
Supports failure analysis and reliability improvement initiatives by providing maintenance documentation and work order data.
Prepares maintenance performance reports, including KPIs, PMI compliance, fleet availability, downtime, and backlog metrics.
Supports safety inspections, audits, regulatory compliance activities, and internal reporting requirements.
Promotes safe work practices and ensures compliance with DART safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Maintenance Management, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Transportation, Logistics, or a related technical field preferred.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a maintenance environment, in maintenance planning, scheduling, or work control required; experience in light rail or public transit maintenance preferred.
Working knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
Knowledge of passenger rail vehicle systems; light rail vehicle experience preferred.
Experience using a CMMS/EAM system such as IBM Maximo (preferred), SAP PM, Infor EAM, or equivalent.
Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C driver’s license and meet DART driving record requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Tableau.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize maintenance activities in a fast-paced, operational environment.
Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
Knowledge of applicable safety practices and regulatory requirements (FTA, APTA, OSHA).
Ability to effectively coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and Materials Management personnel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to support a 24/7 rail operation as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
