In this role, you'll:

Working as part of a team delivering safe, reliable and efficient rail infrastructure maintenance and supporting operational delivery across the Sydney Trains network, this role contributes to keeping the rail system functioning safely and effectively.

This role will see you build foundational skills through a combination of structured training and hands-on experience, supporting track maintenance activities, learning rail safety procedures, and gaining exposure to worksite protection planning and delivery. You will develop practical capabilities in rail safeworking, basic track work, and operating within a highly regulated safety-critical environment.

You will build practical skills and contribute to safe service delivery in a dynamic, safety-critical and team-based rail environment, where adaptability, attention to detail and commitment to safety are essential. As part of the traineeship, you will also be supported to complete a nationally recognised Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure, combining structured learning with on-the-job experience

This is a fixed-term, full-time position commencing in June 2026 and concluding on 30th June 2027.

About you

Your strong work ethic, willingness to learn and safety-focused mindset, formed across entry-level roles, vocational training or hands-on environments, will see you excel in developing core rail competencies, overcoming the challenges of working in a live operational environment, and contributing to safe and effective maintenance outcomes.

You're recognised as a reliable and adaptable team contributor, skilled at following instructions and communicating clearly, with a developing capability in applying safety procedures and working collaboratively, and ideally bring experience from trade, construction, transport, or other practical, team-based environments that support successful completion of the traineeship and achievement of the Certificate II qualification.

A current NSW Driver’s Licence is required, along with the ability to work shift patterns across a 24/7 rotating roster, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays, and a willingness to travel across the Sydney Trains network to support operational delivery.
