Job Description

The Reg Rad Tech 1 arranges patients for radiological examinations. Produces radiographs (x-rays)/ images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Initially, may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

  1. Clinical skills
    1. Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
    2. Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
    3. Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
    4. Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
    5. Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
    6. Coordinates Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
  2. Patient/General Safety
    1. Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
    2. Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
    3. Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
    4. Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
    5. Adheres to infection control practices.
  3. Radiation safety
    1. Ask females of child bearing age if they may be pregnant.
    2. Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in child bearing age.
    3. Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure.
    4. Complete Annual Mandate Radiation Safety
    5. Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures
  4. Equipment Maintenance
    1. Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment
    2. Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center
  5. Documentation/Communication
    1. Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams
    2. Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials,
  6. other duties as assigned
    1. Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24 hour coverage of the Radiology Department
    2. Assist in other areas of the department as work load permits
    3. Keeps areas well stocked at all times
    4. Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality

Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R)

Louisiana/ Mississippi State License registry eligible or current temp license

Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP
