Works closely with the Chief Technologist, Radiology Manager, Radiologists, and Executive Director to supervise and perform technical procedures within the Department of Radiology. Coordinates staff schedules across all locations and oversees day-to-day patient procedures within the assigned modality while ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an AMA-approved diagnostic imaging program required (see Addendum for modality-specific requirements).

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Required licensure and certifications based on assigned modality (see Addendum). CPR certification required.

Experience:

Clinical experience in diagnostic imaging with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibilities preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of patient positioning techniques required to image human anatomy
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations applicable to contrast media and medication (as applicable)
  • Knowledge of radiation protection and safety (non-ultrasound modalities)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate workflow
  • Ability to listen actively, analyze information, and respond appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of excellence in healthcare through the quality and caring values of Decatur Memorial Hospital.
  • Demonstrates courteous behavior through respectful communication with coworkers, physicians, patients, and guests.
  • Demonstrates cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment; maintains adequate inventory while meeting budgetary goals.
  • Supervises technologists and clinical staff to ensure high-quality patient care and imaging outcomes.
  • Interviews and recommends qualified candidates for hire in accordance with Human Resources policies.
  • Schedules staff across all modality sites to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
  • Determines staffing needs, establishes work methods, and monitors employee job performance.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations within established timeframes.
  • Performs duties of a staff technologist as needed and maintains competency within assigned areas.
  • Maintains departmental records, reports, and statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Monitors daily quality control checks of materials and equipment per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Actively participates in departmental and hospital councils, committees, and task forces.
  • Develops goals and objectives aligned with departmental strategic plans.
  • Keeps Radiology Manager and Executive Director informed of operational concerns involving staff, patients, or physicians.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication channels to address inter- and intra-departmental concerns and resolve conflicts.
  • Implements corrective or disciplinary actions per hospital policy under direction of leadership and Human Resources.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth, ongoing education, and competency.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, safety, infection control, disaster plans, and emergency codes.
  • Conducts orientation and onboarding of new employees following hospital guidelines.
  • Assists staff in developing individual professional development goals.
