What You’ll Do For Our Patients

  • Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.

  • Exercise professional judgment to provide health care services, which include applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups

The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with Medical Providers and/orMedical Assistants with the examination and treatment of Mercy-GoHealth UrgentCare patients. This role is responsible for providing a variety oftechnical procedures and applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologicdiagnosis for our Mercy-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsiblefor performing and analyzing patient x-rays and reporting results toMedical Providers. Additional responsibilities include providingadministrative support to ensure efficient operation of Mercy-GoHealth UrgentCare Centers. In a collaborative manner, the Radiologic Technologist willprovide support to Medical Providers, Medical Assistants and patientsthrough a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organizationand communication.

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma required

  • ARRT certificationrequired

Work Experience

  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtainedthrough the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)registration required at time of hire.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for x-ray services as needed

  • Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform x-ray servicesfor patients by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatmentof patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly.

  • Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipmentand protected during use.

  • May need to push patient in a wheelchair

Patient Preparation and Rooming

  • Inform technical staff of patient flow.

  • Prepare patients for examination, which includes conductinginterviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirmpurpose of visit;

  • Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight,temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provideras needed.

  • Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis,ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to provider

Administrative

  • Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts topatient files.

  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care

  • Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controlsand calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Controllogs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance,and submit repair tickets as needed

Other responsibilities include:

  • Medical Team Support Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment. Support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.

  • Patient Care:  Explaining procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answering their questions. 

  • Patient Positioning:  Accurately positioning patients and equipment for optimal imaging results. 

  • Image Production:  Selecting proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images

  • Equipment Maintenance:  Performing routine maintenance, cleaning of X-ray equipment, and managing necessary supplies. 

  • Radiation Safety:  Adhering to strict radiation safety protocols and implementing ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff. 

  • Documentation:Maintainingaccurate patient records and logging completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks as required

  • Image Management:  Verifying image quality and ensuring images are sent to radiologists for interpretation. 

Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.

2. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics

and patient movement.

3. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

Skills:

1. Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required

2. Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor

3. Following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
