Job Description

Performs and obtains high quality radiographs on all patients (i.e. In-Patients, ED and Out Patients); recognizes the need for and utilizes safe techniques such as shielding, collimation and applying principles of ALARA [as low as reasonable achievable] to minimize radiation exposure to the patient, self and others. Transports patients to and from X-ray rooms as required. Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required. Maintains a clean and safe work area following Infection control standards to include X-ray room, X-ray equipment and accessories. Informs appropriate personnel when equipment is in need of repair.

Responsibilities

-Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behave in a manner consistent with maintaining a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

-Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Participation in continuous Quality Improvement, adhering to the specific rules and regulations of BronxCare Health System a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management Incident and Occurrence reporting, (c) Infection Control Standards and (d) Patient and Customer service.

-Utilizes all X-ray equipment permitted within the scope of their license and realm of their training.

-Performs and obtains high quality radiographs on all patient (i.e. In-Patients, Emergency Room patient or Private Out Patients); recognizes the need for and utilizes lead shielding where appropriate in accordance with departmental policies.

-Schedules and coordinates the time of transport to and from a Diagnostic X-ray for inpatients and ED patients. Ensures inpatient schedules along with preps are posted on the hospital intranet daily. Functions independently with regard to individualizing each exam relative to clinical history, reviewing orders, lab results and prior imaging utilizing the hospital computer system and radiology information system in accordance to hospital policy.

-Assist the radiologist during the performance of fluoroscopy studies.

-Transports patients to and from X-ray rooms as required. Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.

-Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

-Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Communicates supply shortage /inventory needs to supervisor.

-Maintains a clean and safe work area following Infection control standards.

-Keeps current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic imaging by reading technical journals, participating in in-service education programs, attending conferences, etc.

-Attendance and punctuality (Start of work and return to work from breaks and lunch) is maintained in accordance with hospital policy.

Qualifications

-One (1) year experience as an X-ray Technologist preferred.

-New York State License as an X-ray Technologist.

-American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT Registered).
