Job Purpose

To facilitate achievement of the medical objectives to reduce morbidity and mortality by provision of emergency healthcare services to refugee populations in Maban County.

Main Responsibility/Duties

• Operate imaging equipment such as X-ray machines, MRI scanners, and CT scanners
• Prepare patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process and answering any questions they may have
• Position patients correctly to obtain the necessary images while ensuring their comfort and safety
• Maintain and calibrate imaging equipment to ensure optimal operation and image quality
• Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to interpret imaging results
• Follow radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients and healthcare staff
• Process and manage patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
• Administer contrast agents to patients when necessary for certain imaging procedures
• Perform routine quality control checks on imaging equipment
• Assist in the development and implementation of imaging policies and procedures
• Stay updated on advances in radiologic technology and practices through continuing education and training

Referrals

• Identify cases for referral for further care and prepare medical referral documents and reports.
• Review all cases prior to referral ensuring that the referral is required.
• Follow up on the outcome of treatment in referral facilities.

Capacity Building and Supervision

• Observe medical services provided by clinical staff and identify gaps in knowledge and skills on radiological aspects.
• Participate in the development and implementation of continuing medical education for staff; conduct presentations for clinical staff through scheduled lectures and routine continuous medical education including case studies, bedside teaching and other teaching techniques.
• Assist with the identification and development of technical resources, job aides and other materials

Health Information System

• Assist in providing data and other information required for donor, cluster partners and institutional reporting

Management

• Participate in weekly, monthly and quarterly management meetings
• Participate in program development and setting priorities for radiology department.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a hospital recruitment and retention strategy of health care workers;
• And any other duty as directed by the supervisor

Policy compliance – Mandatory Reporting Policy (MRP):

• Ensure any violations of the RI Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Code of Conduct are reported to the Program Manager. The reporting of violations is an obligation on the part of all staff members.
• Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by RI and other humanitarian workers

Note:

• The role of the radiographer cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein. The success of the RI’s humanitarian mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed accordingly. Therefore, the Radiographer will be required to support in unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain flexible to perform other duties, as and when required by supervisor.

Radiographer Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field
• Strong understanding of anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology
• Excellent patient care and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
• Proficiency with radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS)
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
• State licensure, if required by the local jurisdiction
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining imaging equipment
• Knowledge of radiation safety standards and protocols
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate patient care
• Ability to follow precise instructions and medical protocols
• Physical stamina to perform tasks that require prolonged standing and lifting
• Good organizational skills to manage patient records and documentation
