Schedule Orientation schedule will be Monday through Friday 8-hour shifts. After orientation, the permanent shift will be Monday through Friday 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. The role will support all surgical pavilions and the NM River North Ambulatory Surgery Center based on departmental needs. On-Call Requirement: Minimum of 110 hours per six-week schedule. Coverage includes weekdays (5:00 PM - 7:00 AM) and 24 hours on weekends/holidays with a 30-minute response time. Call assignments may adjust based on staffing.

  • The Radiographer-Interventional provides imaging services to assist in diagnosis or treatment of inpatients and or outpatients. This role performs radiographic and related procedures to demonstrate vascular structures for interpretation and/or therapeutic interventional by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. The Radiographer-Interventional will exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. This individual provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs vascular interventional, neuro interventional and spine interventional imaging procedures
  • Evaluates the request for radiographic service and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
  • Corroborate patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Prepare patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Operate imaging equipment and accessories.
  • Select appropriate program for desired protocol.
  • Position's patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate interventional imaging images.
  • Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and “patients' first” guidelines. Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
  • Evaluate the resultant images in comparison with industry standard (Merrill’s’ Atlas of Roentgen graphic Positions) and takes corrective action if needed.
  • Provide patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient’s anxiety and enhance his/her comfort with and tolerance of the procedure.
  • Perform imaging procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices as determined by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to limit radiation exposure to patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Documents imaging procedures manually and /or electronically to insure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking.
  • Monitor's stock of supplies in imaging rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
  • Report incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon as possible.
  • Provide imaging services of optimum quality with optimum productivity and customer service.
  • Collects data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.
  • Participate in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.
  • Identifies areas for potential improvement and recommends corrective actions.
  • Ensures the continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments (i.e.: surgery, emergency department, registration, patient escort, nursing services)

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Illinois license through IEMA
  • ARRT registry in radiography
  • CPR certification (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program

Preferred:

  • Advanced certification in Vascular Interventional Radiology
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years Interventional Imaging experience
