Job Description

Role:

  • Responsible to the Port Captain for the safety and quality of the Communications. Coordinates with the Procurement Division, Marine-Engineering Division, and Cargo Operation Division. Duties and Responsibilities of a Radio Officer (shore-based) include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Receives takes-up Ships Position daily at 6 am, 12 noon and 5 pm positioning time.
  • Receives incoming and outgoing Radio Gram messages from various vessels, office departments for immediate dispatch.
  • Sourcing out weather reports from the PAGASA websites every 5 am and 5 pm daily in good weather condition. For Bad weather; every 5 am, 8 am, 11 am, 2 pm, 5 pm, 8 pm, 11 pm and 2 am. They will transmit to all vessels accordingly.
  • Receives ships incident and shall report (via E-mail) to the Management, Port Captain and In-charge Superintendent.
  • Takes up drill exercises from PSACC vessels.
  • Maintains and updates the record book and reports.
  • Performs testing of maritime radio station equipment electronic radio transmitters/receivers for communications, VHF, SSB and Facsimile regularly.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the superiors.

Knowledge, Experience, and Education Required

  • Preferably with 12 years of experience in a ship's subordinate post
  • Preferably with a degree from a reputable maritime training school.
  • Telecommunications -- Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
  • Computers and Electronics -- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
