Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
This role directs the daily operations of the treatment area to ensure quality patient care and promotes radiation therapy standards and safety standards. This role is actively involved in patient care and assists in planning services to achieve hospital objectives. The Radiation Therapist works under the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist, Physicist, and Manager to deliver high-quality care and services.
Essential Job Functions
Sets up treatment rooms, devices, and parameters as ordered by the Radiation Oncologist.
Identifies patients and monitors them during treatment.
Reinforces instructions and maintains patient markings.
Positions patients according to prescriptions, requiring physical effort and mental application.
Coordinates treatment area activities and scheduling.
Documents thoroughly in treatment records.
Performs simulations, brachytherapy procedures, and daily quality checks on equipment.
Maintains equipment, reports problems, and observes radiation safety practices.
Assists in treatment device changes and follows instructions from Radiation Oncologists.
Performs ancillary duties, such as filing, answering phones, and monitoring supplies.

Licensing/Certification
License in State of practice in Radiation Oncology (required, except for candidates hired to acute care sites in Virginia)
Radiation Oncology Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (required)
CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (required)
Work Experience
1 year Experience in Radiation Therapy and CT Simulation (preferred)
