EO/AAThis position performs radiation therapy and radiographic procedures involving the application of X-rays and radioactive substances to patients. The incumbent operates specialized X-ray equipment as prescribed by the physician, keeps treatment records and prepares operational reports as required. This position is responsible for providing direct patient care and also applies ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.Corporate Overview: The University of Utah is a Level 1 Trauma Center and is nationally ranked and recognized for our academic research, quality standards and overall patient experience. Responsibilities

  • Performs radiation therapy treatments.
  • Explains treatment procedures to patients.
  • Prepares the treatment room and equipment, transfers patients to treatment area, and positions patients for treatment.
  • Checks daily treatment parameters; delivers the prescribed dosage; and maintains treatment records in the patient's electronic medical chart.
  • Performs weekly checks of the patient's electronic chart for completeness and accuracy.
  • Photographs patients in the treatment position and observes patients for unusual skin reactions and side effects of treatment.
  • Performs tumor localization using image guidance modalities.
  • Maintains supplies and custom treat devices in the treatment room.
  • Schedules patients for treatment on treatment machines.
  • Performs daily quality and safety checks of the Linear Accelerator and other treatment equipment.
  • Teaches clinical intern students.
  • Performs service recovery as needed.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform verification checks and apply quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of dose calculations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life-span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Ability to follow department policies, procedures and checklists to ensure safe, accurate treatments.
  • Ability to bill correctly for procedures performed.
  • Ability to review and understand a treatment plan to accurately treat patients.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.
  • Credentialed in Radiation Therapy Technology by the American Registry of Radiology (ARRT).
