Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking a Radiation Effects Engineer, mid-career or senior level, to serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) at Little Mountain Test Facility in Ogden, Utah The successful candidate will support all Radioactive Material (RAM) items and services to comply with Air Force, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and Radioisotope Committee (RIC) standards.
Responsibilities:
Manage the radiation safety program. This includes development, maintenance, and application of test facility requirements and personnel training.
Effectively communicate with program office representatives, system designers, and other radiation experts to ensure that radiation-related concerns are adequately addressed.
Interface effectively with internal and external customers across all technical disciplines in a team environment.
Coordinate with peer facilities such as Brookhaven National Labs, Texas A&M, and Boeing Radiation Effects Lab.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite at Little Mountain Test Facility in Ogden, UT
This position requires an Active U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Travel: Travel may be required up to 10% of the time domestically depending on business needs.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
Level 3: Typically, 5 or more years' related work experience
Level 4: Typically, 9 or more years' related work experience
Experience with radiation environments or radiation effects.
Availability to work a flexible schedule and support phone calls outside of normal working hours.
An active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Prior experience as RSO
Completed the training and education requirements outlined by U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulation 10 CFR 35.50.
Option 1: Hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree in physical science, engineering, or biological science with at least 20 college credits in physical science; have at least five (5) years of professional experience in health physics (graduate training can substitute for up to two (2) years); pass an examination covering radioactivity, radiation biology, and radiation dosimetry.
Option 2: Hold a master’s or doctor’s degree in physics, medical physics, or another physical science, engineering or applied mathematics; have two (2) years full-time practical training and/or supervised experience in medical physics; pass an examination that assesses knowledge in clinical diagnostic radiological or nuclear medicine physics and radiation safety.
Proven track record of compliance with safety and security standards.
Experience with operation of electrical test equipment such as digitizing oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal generator, and multimeter.
