The Manufacturing Associate – Radial Forge will perform a variety of tasks in the department and acquire skills on the shop floor through cross training and job rotations. Associate will perform the summarized jobs listed below.

Essential tasks:

  • Material handling

Furnace Operator

  • Operate all heating and soaking furnaces associated with the forge facility. Work from schedules, mill orders, written and verbal instructions to operate rotary forge furnaces to soak and/or heat material for conversion in a safe and economical manner.
  • Must be capable of performing every aspect of operating furnaces such as lighting, fuel selection, minimum/maximum controllable temperature, maximum rate of rise, maximum furnace load, minimum clearance from floors and walls, etc.
  • Acquire and maintain general working knowledge of the deviation limitations of particular materials and use judgment in operating furnaces so these limitations will not be exceeded.
  • Maintain all required work and material identification. Verify data collection to maintain logs, records and other paperwork that is required.
  • Operate as many furnaces as required to meet the production requirements, maintaining the same degree of control and monitoring as required on each furnace.
  • Responsible for staging and marking material for loading.
  • Detect and report any improper operation, defective material, or unusual conditions to proper supervision.

Saw Operator

  • Operate semi-automated abrasive cut-off saw to cut a variety of high temperature alloy billets, bars, ingots and samples, mult, and multiples of proper length and weight. Must be able to utilize manual and automatic controls.
  • Work from mill order, schedules, sample requests, written and verbal instructions and other data to make calculations per established methods and mark billets, bars and other material for cutting to specified size, length, weight, mult or multiplies, maintain all documentation per established procedures. Maintain identification, logs, records, and other paperwork as required.
  • Utilize customized cutting programs to calculate required, specific, intermediate and final mults and lengths.
  • Load and secure material on saw bed, set for proper cut length, operate as necessary to cut off prescribed section, assure material identity of all pieces by stamping or marking according to established procedures.
  • Operate radio control crane to load and unload saw tables and conveyors.

Grinder Operator

  • Operate automatic grinders to finish grind, spot grind, and grind billet to desired shape and dimensional tolerances for superalloy and titanium billet in a variety of shapes and configurations.
  • Work from mill orders and procedures to obtain specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and other instructions to grind material to meet customer specifications.
  • Set-up and operate the grinder, grinder feed, and rotating table and auxiliary equipment. Set-up includes proper setting of grinder wheel speed, feed rates, and head pressure control, holding fixture, clamps and turning apparatus. Manually operate feeds and speeds to perform spot grinding operations and spiral grinding steps.
  • Maintain logs and records covering starting weights and finish weights of material ground.
  • Change worn grinding wheels as necessary or for various grits and/or grades of alloy being ground.
  • Detect and report improper equipment operation or defective material to supervision.

Glama/Charger Operator

  • Operate charging machine to load and unload Press, Rotary Forge, furnaces and transport material around the forge department. Operate the charger to transport other materials such as maintenance items by the use of cables, slings or chains. Assist in the performance of setup and maintenance duties
  • Work from charts, maps, written or oral instructions to load and unload furnaces in the prescribed manner. Upon signal from the forge operators, remove heated material from furnaces and make it available to the forging equipment in the shortest amount of time possible. Remove cut pieces from dies and saw and recharge into furnaces or transport to designated area
  • Operate charger in a manner that will avoid ramming, scraping, or dropping and to ensure the safety of others. Load and unload furnaces to avoid mixing of material identity.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper operations or unusual conditions to proper supervision.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as required or directed by management.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred.
