About The Role:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a
Radar Systems Engineer to be part of our Missile Defense team and based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.
The Radar Systems Engineer will contribute to the design, implementation, integration, and testing of next-generation radar solutions, with an emphasis on signal processing for sea-based radar systems. This role requires a strong foundation in tactical phased array radar systems, digital signal processing (DSP) theory, estimation techniques, modeling and simulation (M&S), and software development. The selected engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of systems engineers, software developers, hardware engineers, and program stakeholders to deliver solutions that exceed operational and performance objectives.
Clearance & Location Requirements:
- All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.
Key Responsibilities
What You Will Do:
- Analyze radar performance through M&S and ground / flight test data
- Develop DSP architecture(s) for real-time embedded implementations
- Design, implement, and validate algorithms using MATLAB, Python, C++, or other comparable programming language / environment
- Perform trade studies and evaluate algorithm performance against requirements at the system and system-of-systems levels
- Collaborate with RF, hardware, software, and systems engineering teams
- Support combat system integration, verification, and validation activities
- Document algorithm designs, test procedures, and technical results
- Participate in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings (TIMs)
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Who You Are (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline
- 5+ years of experience in radar systems engineering
- Strong understanding of:
- Digital signal processing (DSP)
- Detection and estimation theory
- Statistical signal processing
- Fourier analysis and spectral estimation
- Kalman filtering and target tracking
- Experience with radar waveform processing and Doppler analysis
- Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or Java
- Understanding of object orientated design and polymorphism
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts
- Ability to work closely with Program Managers and Chief Engineers to document, manage and communicate requirements
- Attention to detail
- Initiative, creativity, reliability, teamwork
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Solid analytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive
- Candidate should be self-starter and able to work independently, but not hesitate to engage with their fellow engineers for assistance whenever necessary
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Master’s or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related STEM discipline
- Previous experience with at least one of the following radar systems: SPY-1, SPY-6, TPY-2, or TPY-6
- Missile defense-related domain knowledge and experience
- Familiarity with software development best practices, version control, and continuous integration workflows
- Experience with software testing, configuration management, and test automation
- Familiarity with distributed systems, algorithms, and software design patterns
- Proficiency working with different software development tools (Git, SVN, Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, Nexus, etc.)
- Experience applying AI/ML to radar system design and/or data analysis
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems, specifically Red Hat Enterprise
- Experience with real-time embedded processing platforms
- Familiarity with GPU acceleration and high-performance computing

Pay Range*: $114,000 - $184,000 or $135,000 - $231,000
