Leidos’ Low Band System (LBS) Radar program is seeking a highly experienced Chief Engineer to lead the technical execution of the LBS-VHF system. This is a large, multi-phase radar program with concurrent development, test, production, and sustainment activities. You will serve as the technical authority across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring design integrity, technical performance, and disciplined engineering execution. This role requires a systems-minded leader with the ability to direct technical work based on cost, schedule, risk, and requirements. This is not your average engineering position. You will work on a team of the most talented engineers in the region who push you to be better every day. THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)
Lead technical team to design, manufacture, and deliver a radar system that conforms to requirements.
Be comfortable navigating software, signal processing, mechanical, and electrical engineering issues, while supported by subject matter experts on your team.
Provide technical oversight and management of technical baseline
Balance technical solution while adhering to cost and schedule constraints
Serve as the program’s technical lead for engineering execution, system performance, and compliance with requirements across multiple product lifecycle stages.
Serve as chair of risk review boards and engineering review boards
Communicate technical progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership and government stakeholders.
Provide technical direction and oversight to subsystem leads, integrated product team leads, and specialty engineering disciplines to ensure design maturity, integration, and risk mitigation.
Mentor and develop technical staff, fostering a culture of innovation, rigor, and collaboration across the engineering organization.
WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
BS+ 19 years of progressive engineering experience or 15+ years experience with MS degree.
5 years leading multiple discipline teams larger than 10 individuals
Experience in a chief engineer role on large DoD or aerospace program.
Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering teams supporting concurrent development, integration, test, and production
Excellent technical judgment and ability to communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience with formal design review processes (PDR/CDR), configuration management, and risk management practices.
Basic understanding of Radar Systems and signal processing
Active DoD security clearance (or ability to obtain).
You must be a resident of the Huntsville, AL area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with radar, EO/IR, or other advanced sensing technologies.

Pay Range $154,050.00 - $278,475.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
