About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Racing Training Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing industry training and development programs to deliver a sustainable pipeline of high-quality professionals and athletes across thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in WA.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

Jockey Development

  • Oversee the high-performance training program for apprentice jockeys to ensure an adequate supply for WA racing
  • Evaluate and adjust the apprentice jockey training program to develop professional athletes that meet industry needs
  • Leverage external providers to deliver appropriate qualifications and supplementary training

Driver Development

  • Identify and develop training programs to build capability in concession drivers
  • Oversee the provision of support and training for young drivers

Greyhound Participant Development

  • Review licensing training materials to ensure industry regulations and legislations are met
  • Work with internal divisions to develop educational programs aligned to animal welfare requirements

Human Resources

  • Manage individual performance of each apprentice and address issues where appropriate
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are followed with support of the P&C Business Partner

RTO Third Party Arrangements

  • Develop and maintain RTO quality and risk management systems
  • Maintain compliance through third party arrangements
  • Mitigate risks and ensure audit findings are addressed

External Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with industry stakeholders and participants
  • Represent WA on stakeholder and consultative groups

Industry Training/Growth

  • Oversee Racing WA’s training pathways to ensure they meet industry needs and support workforce pipelines
  • Identify and develop training solutions to address industry skill gaps
  • Source and create training resources aligned to qualification, legislative and industry requirements

Qualifications

About you

  • Possession of TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor
  • Solid understanding of the VET sector and Standards for RTOs 2025
  • Knowledge of the racing industry (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Racing (desirable)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders
  • Coaching/mentoring abilities
  • Problem solving skills
