Agency Overview

The commission is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and promotion of horse racing and its related industry components. In that connection, the commission shall regulate pari-mutuel wagering and the licensing of all industry participants in order to insure the protection of the wagering public and the integrity of the sport. It shall use its best efforts to promote horse racing and breeding to the citizens of Ohio, and cooperate with horse owners, trainers, breeders, other licensees, county fairs, and commercial racetracks in order to accomplish these goals. The commission strives to create an atmosphere where the wagering public would not need to be protected and the sport maintains the highest level of integrity.

Issues application forms, instructs and assists applicants whose positions require a license, checks applications for completeness, receives fees and issues receipts and licenses at Belterra Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Checks daily racing programs for compliance with requirements of rules and regulations of OSRC, reports irregularities to Stewards and Judges through the computer licensing system. Collects, maintains and scans to the commission computer network all vet tags, license applications and recaps.

Polices all grounds of permit holder for compliance of commission rules; checks personnel for identification in compliance with Ohio Revised Code (ORC) and rules and regulation of the OSRC relative to any illegal activity. Assists in searches at the licensed tracks; conducts human drug testing.
Other duties as assigned.
May work weekends, holidays and flexible hours. May be exposed to inclement weather.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in investigative techniques & procedures.

Supplemental Information

The number of work days will vary depending on the number of live race days at Belterra Park. Belterra Park races April through early October and generally races 4 days per week. Applicant will most likely work 4 days a week including weekends and holidays and various other times during the remainder of the year.
