Job Description
Group Research and Development (GRD) performs strategic and applied research for DNV focusing on knowledge development through collaborations with academia and industry, providing thought leadership through external publications and forecasts, and creates scientific legitimacy to DNV services.
We are establishing a new quantum technology research unit and quantum lab at our headquarters near Oslo, with three purposes:
- To monitor and evaluate quantum technology developments (incl. technical, market and regulatory) and their potential impacts on DNV and the industries we serve.
- To explore and prototype how quantum technologies can support existing DNV services and enable new ones.
- To build capacity for assuring quantum technologies and manage the associated risks (incl. quantum hardware and software, as well as systems that include or are affected by quantum technologies).
We are currently recruiting 2 quantum technology researchers. They will work closely with other GRD research units on topics such as ship autonomy, robotic inspection, energy systems and aquaculture. We also collaborate with different DNV business areas and lab facilities and will engage with academia and industry partners through joint research centres and projects.
You will be part of an interdisciplinary team working together to explore how emerging technologies shape the future of assurance and support DNVs purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment.

- Minimum master’s degree or PhD in physics/mathematics/computer science.
- Quantum related education or work experience with either quantum sensing, quantum computing or quantum communication (either experimental, theoretical or simulation aspects).
- Likes to work on interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of industrial and academic research.
- Good coding abilities (but we care more about your ability to think computationally than what languages and frameworks you know).
- Experience managing research projects and applying for research project grants is an advantage.
- Knowledge of risk & reliability analysis, assurance, uncertainty quantification or machine learning is an advantage.
