Job Description

Quantity surveyor plays a key role in supporting the Head of Commercial for the Advisory Business Unit, assisting in the management of commercial risk, enhancing commercial performance, and maintaining strong contractual and client relationships across projects.

The role contributes to effective commercial governance and sustainable project delivery through change management, commercial reporting, contract administration, and providing day‑to‑day commercial support to project and prospect leaders in alignment with business objectives.

  1. Commercial Risk Management
    • Support the business unit in identifying, mitigating, and managing commercial risks across projects and business activities.
    • Assist in preparing strategies to manage risks and opportunities, including notices, correspondence, record keeping, and follow-up actions from commercial meetings.
    • Ensure commercial standards, procedures, and processes are consistently applied across all commercial activities.
  2. Project Commercial Oversight
    • Participate in regular project reviews to identify commercial opportunities and risks and help drive actions that improve financial performance.
    • Maintain current opportunity and risk registers, including accurate values, commentary, and status updates.
    • Review project financial accounts and monthly reports to assess working capital exposure, profitability, and revenue recognition.
  3. Contractual Support & Change Management
    • Provide support on contract negotiations, post-tender clarifications, and final settlements with clients and sub-consultants.
    • Support project teams with preparation and agreement of variations, extensions of time, prolongation claims, and other change submissions.
    • Prepare commercial and contractual correspondence to clients and provide practical advice to project leaders on commercial matters.
  4. Working Capital & Stakeholder Collaboration
    1. Work closely with finance, legal, and working capital teams to resolve disputed or delayed invoices and improve cash collection.
    2. Support business reporting by providing accurate commercial updates and status commentary for regular internal reporting.
    3. Build effective working relationships with project leaders, business unit leadership, clients, and sub-consultants to enable successful project outcomes.

    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
    • Ability to prepare clear contractual correspondence and support claims, variations, and commercial submissions.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Professional membership or progress toward chartership with a recognised institution such as RICS, ICE, or equivalent is preferred.
• Proven experience in a similar commercial or quantity surveying role within the construction, infrastructure, or design consultancy sector.
• Practical experience in contract administration, commercial reporting, change management, and supporting claims or variations.
• Strong understanding of financial management principles including working capital, invoicing, profitability, and revenue recognition.
• Experience working with internal stakeholders such as finance, legal, and project teams to resolve commercial and contractual matters.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear commercial correspondence and reports.
• Demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality commercial support.
