Job Description

Axis CLC is a national property maintenance and compliance partner, backed by over 110 years of combined experience. We employ more than 2,500 people and support over 400 clients across the UK, delivering essential repairs, refurbishment and building safety services that keep homes and public buildings operating at their best. Each year we complete over 400,000 repairs, helping to keep tenants safe, properties performing and owners fully compliant.

The Role

We are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to support delivery across our long-standing Whitbread framework.

This is a well-established long term framework, delivering planned refurbishment programmes across the Whitbread estate. Works typically include bedroom refurbishments, bathroom upgrades and wider internal improvement programmes within live hotel environments.

This role offers exposure beyond a traditional QS position, combining elements of commercial management, project coordination and surveying responsibilities, working closely with operational teams and the client to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

This role will be based from our Walsall office, with regular travel across the UK to support project delivery (typically up to two days per week, including overnight stays).

Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the commercial aspects of planned refurbishment works, including valuations, cost control and financial reporting
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review and agree variations with both client and supply chain
  • Undertake site visits and surveys to scope works and support project delivery
  • Work closely with operational teams to coordinate programme delivery within live environments
  • Manage subcontractor performance, costs and commercial agreements
  • Monitor project budgets, margins and cash flow performance
  • Support the delivery of works programmes across multiple sites
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships within a long-term framework environment
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve commercial and delivery performance

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate experience in Quantity Surveying within construction, refurbishment or property services. We would also consider candidates who are newly qualified or working towards a qualification, with the right attitude and willingness to develop.

Essential

  • Experience in Quantity Surveying within construction, refurbishment or property services (or working towards a qualification with relevant experience)
  • Experience delivering planned works or refurbishment projects
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to manage costs, variations and project performance
  • Ability to work across both site and office environments
  • Experience working within live environments (e.g. hotels, housing, commercial buildings)
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach to project delivery

Desirable

  • Experience working on frameworks or long-term client partnerships
  • Experience within hospitality, residential or commercial refurbishment environments
  • Knowledge of contract forms (e.g. JCT)
  • Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Car allowance
  • Pension scheme, medical scheme options and life assurance
  • 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays
  • Perkbox (discounts, perks & wellbeing offers)
  • 1 paid volunteer day
  • £2,000 refer-a-friend bonus after the referee passes probation
  • Opportunities for development and progression across Axis CLC
