Job Description

2nd Shift QUALITY TECHNICIAN – Romeoville Fabrication

Monday-Friday | 2:00pm-10:30pm

Put your quality expertise to work with a company that values precision, continuous improvement, and doing things right.

Chicago Tube and Iron Company (CTI) is a leader in the metals distribution and fabrication industry with a long-standing reputation for stability, growth, and customer service. We are looking for a Quality Technician to join our team and play an important role in ensuring our fabricated products meet both customer requirements and CTI’s high standards for quality.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on inspection, problem-solving, technical drawings, PPAPs, CMMs, and manufacturing process improvement

What You'll Do

As a Quality Technician, you’ll work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality to support new and existing products from initial planning through production. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop quality documentation and inspection processes for value-added and fabricated parts.
  • Create process inspection sheets and balloon drawings for first-article and in-process inspections.
  • Partner with the New Products Manager to support PPAPs, PFMEAs, process flows, and control plans
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections to verify products meet specifications.
  • Perform inspections using a portable CMM, including developing CMM programs when needed.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T
  • Inspect outsourced parts and document/report nonconforming material.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions across manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze process and quality data using statistical tools to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with rework jobs and disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Review, develop, and revise quality and testing procedures.
  • Verify production processes and finished parts meet established quality standards.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and clean inspection and testing equipment.
  • Help reinforce CTI’s safety and quality standards throughout the operation.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of related quality or manufacturing experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of PPAP and new-part implementation processes
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including calipers and portable CMM equipment
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience with bending, fabrication, or other metal manufacturing processes.
  • Experience developing CMM inspection programs.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis, corrective actions, PFMEA, and control plans.

Why CTI?

At CTI, quality isn't simply a final inspection—it's part of how we manufacture, solve problems, and serve our customers. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with manufacturing processes, contribute to new-product development, and have a meaningful impact on continuous improvement.

If you enjoy figuring out why something happened, how to prevent it from happening again, and how to make a manufacturing process better, we'd like to hear from you.

Consistent. Reliable. Customer Service.

Job offers are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen, physical, and background check. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, the applicable salary range, market data, and the applicant's skills, relevant experience, education, degrees, and certifications.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
