Job Description

Job Title: Quality Planning Engineer

Location: Plymouth, MI (BNAM Office)

This position will function to provide Quality support for BluE Nexus America (BNAM) products in North America.

General note: Tier 1 = BNAM, Tier 2 = AISIN/Denso/TMC, Tier 3 = Supply Chain

Position Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

Initial Launch Control (ILC/ESC)

  • Preparation of documents and evidence for milestone management based on BNAM policies and procedures.
    • Complete Tier 2 plant audits (BNAM: Tier 1) as needed.
      • Confirm process quality for new developed lines/commodities before Start of Production (SOP) timing.
  • OEM manufacturing process confirmation for BNAM commodities based on BNAM/Tier 2 Inspection/Handling Information in order to prevent mishandling OEM plants.
    • Commodity handling confirmation during transportation and at OEM plant.
    • Customer vehicle confirmation trial support from BNAM point of view.
  • Quality confirmation (installation condition, connector conditions, etc.) of BNAM business components on Customer trial event vehicles.

Customer Quality Contact

  • Quality information support for RFQ reply preparation:
    • Explain and negotiate with OEM based on agreement with BNJ and Tier 2 suppliers.
    • Negotiation of quality agreements with the OEM’s (Including service matters).
    • Negotiation of quality agreements with Tier 2 suppliers (Including service matters).
    • Preparation of quality assurance plans (APQP) with Tier 2 suppliers that satisfies OEM requirements.
    • Preparation of documentation (with Tier 2 suppliers) required to gain approval from OEM.
    • Coordinate approval from OEM for product design changes and process changes in Tier 2 manufacturing.
    • Facilitate OEM process audits at Tier 2 suppliers.
  • Quality Response (Early Detection/Early Resolution Methodology):
    • Manage OEM Field claim issues.
      • Attend Tier 2 investigation activity with containment, as needed.
      • Manage urgent problem correspondence.
      • Coordinate Go&See at customer locations or dealerships.
    • Coordinate OEM Line claim issue correspondence.
      • Understand OEM requirements.
      • Visit OEM vehicle plant or dealer with Tier 2 suppliers, as needed.
      • Develop and distribute quality report.
      • Attend Tier 2 investigation activities, as needed.
      • Manage urgent problem correspondence (Q6 events).
    • Promote OEM quality meetings (Coordination with OEM/ BN-J).
    • Various Coordination with OEM and Tier 2 suppliers, as required.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Maintenance of BNAM procedures for ESC (Early-Stage Control) quality milestones.
    • Customer quality contact.
    • Administer Early Detection Earl Resolution (EDER) activities.
    • Manage compensation and administrative correspondence based on BNJ regulations.
    • Preparation of documents and evidence preparation for external ISO 9001 audit.
    • Lead external audit activities and arrange audit agenda.
    • Preparation of documents and evidence for internal audits and assessment of internal processes.
  • Warranty Cost Treatment:
    • Warranty cost agreements between BNAM and Tier 2 suppliers.
      • Send invoices to Tier 2, as needed.
      • Disposition Tier 2 cost claims.
      • Inform the results to BNAM Sales.
    • Warranty cost agreements between BNAM and OEM.
      • Receive invoices from OEM.
      • Disposition of OEM cost claims.
      • Inform the results to BNAM Sales/Finance.
      • Develop cost share evidence and documentation based on OEM requirements together with Tier 2 suppliers.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Production Process Auditing
  • Problem Solving (8D, 5 Why, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Core Tool Knowledge (FMEA, Control Plan, etc.)
  • Basic Quality Sciences (SPC, Capability, etc.)
  • Experienced in negotiating claims for compensation (cost share agreements)

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • ISO9001 /IATF16949 Internal auditor certification
  • Knowledge of requirement for ISO26262, ISO14747 and A-SPICE
  • OEM Quality System knowledge (Automotive)
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQA, CQRE, etc.)

Education/Training/Certifications

  • BA/BS Graduate

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 30 %
  • Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
