The Role
The Quality Operations Business Manager is a key leader responsible for driving quality performance and launch readiness across GMNA manufacturing operations. This role provides business-focused oversight of the GM Quality System, GMS BIQ principles, and the Global Quality Manual, ensuring customer-focused quality requirements are built into daily operations and new program launches. The manager partners with Assembly Plant leadership, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to define problems clearly, mentor teams through complex issue resolution, and provide transparent updates on risks and corrective actions, with regular travel to GMNA plants.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Own and improve key quality metrics for assigned plants/programs, translating issues into clear business impacts and prioritized actions.
Ensure effective implementation and audit of the GM Quality System, GMS BIQ principles, and Global Quality Manual requirements in manufacturing operations.
Lead or support execution of the Quality Launch Plan for new products and major program changes, ensuring full quality readiness at each launch milestone.
Coach and teach plant and engineering teams on quality standards, problem-solving methodologies, and launch quality expectations.
Provide clear, concise communication of problem statements, risks, and resolution plans to Plant Staffs, Engineering, and executive leadership.
Support on-site launch and plant activities, including trial builds and key build events, to identify and mitigate quality risks.
Travel to GMNA plants as needed to conduct audits, reviews, workshops, and on-site problem solving, modeling GM behaviors and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of salaried quality professionals, setting clear direction, managing resources, and removing roadblocks to consistently achieve launch and plant quality objectives.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
3+ years of experience in vehicle and/or propulsion manufacturing, with a strong focus on Quality Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, or Operations leadership.
Proven experience supporting or leading launch execution in a manufacturing environment.
Deep knowledge of vehicle/propulsion manufacturing processes and plant operations.
Demonstrated proficiency with the GM Quality System, GMS BIQ principles, and Global Quality Manual (or equivalent structured quality systems).
Strong managerial courage with the ability to provide direct, honest, and constructive feedback to Plant Staffs and Executive Leadership in a professional manner.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
High level of analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and data-driven decision making.
Proficiency with standard business tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, reporting/analysis tools).
Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), as well as overtime and weekends, as needed.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
5+ years of experience in vehicle and/or propulsion manufacturing, with a strong focus on Quality Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, or Operations leadership.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations Management, Business, or related technical field.
Experience in a Quality Operations Manager/Business Manager or Plant Quality leadership role.
Formal training or certification in quality methodologies (e.g., Red X, DFSS, Lean/Six Sigma, or similar).
Experience leading or auditing against BIQ levels, ISO/IATF or other external quality standards.
Prior responsibility for quality performance across multiple plants, business units, or regions.
Familiarity with GM-specific quality, launch, and manufacturing systems and tools.
