Title: Quality Lab Technician
Department: Quality Assurance
Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager
Status: Non-Exempt Hourly
Position Purpose: Quality Assurance Technicians are responsible for the testing and documentation of test results to confirm that materials and products meet the required specifications. They work closely with operating personnel to ensure nonconforming products are identified and corrective actions are taken.
Principle Accountabilities
• Selects products for testing.
• Sets up, adjusts and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
• Initiates nonconforming material investigations in a timely manner.
• Prepares and issues certificates of analysis and other customer documentation.
• Evaluates results of testing to verify conformity to specification.
• Enters test data into computer for analysis.
• Conducts testing to support quality investigations.
• Conducts product audits, records results and issues corrective action if required.
• Conducts basic maintenance and calibration verification of key equipment.
• Maintains a clean and safe laboratory at all times.
• Keeps operators and shift leaders informed of any non-conformances found.
• Ensures hold tags are filled out and attached to non-conforming materials or products.
• Calibrates test equipment at proper intervals. Sends equipment to external source for calibration if it cannot be calibrated internally. Keeps calibration records up to date.
• Provides and maintains test data from trial runs.
Essential Skills and Experience
• High school graduate with strong math, written, and oral communication skills.
• Good organizational and inter-personal skills.
• Previous manufacturing or laboratory experience desired.
• Good understanding of metric and English measures.
• Ability and willingness to work with others as a team member.
• Maintains a satisfactory attendance record.
• Able to stand a majority of the shift.
• Ability to work night shift required
