Job Summary

Plans, coordinates, and performs raw material and finished product testing. The testing will involve sampling and mechanical testing to determine standards of performance as it relates to current raw material and finished material specifications. Utilize analytical instrumentation and other equipment as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

• Perform routine and non-routine testing of incoming raw materials, and finished products in accordance with established specifications, procedures, and test methods.
• Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory, analytical, mechanical, and electrical testing equipment.
• Responsible for daily testing duties as they relate to melt flow, FTIR, DSC, mechanical testing and Critical Shear, and others as required.
• Accurately record, review, and communicate test results, identifying and escalating deviations or results outside established specifications.
• Evaluate incoming raw material loads for compliance with established quality requirements.
• Partner with Production, Sourcing, and Quality personnel to investigate and resolve material, product, and production-related quality issues.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, test data, technical reports, and other required quality documentation.
• Support experimental trials, pilot-scale evaluations, production trials, new material evaluations, product designs, and process modifications as directed.
• Perform testing and documentation necessary to support shipment of materials via railcars and trucks, including sample collection, testing, preparation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and Bills of Lading (BOLs).
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas to support accurate, reliable, and safe testing.
• Follow applicable Quality System policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and established safety practices.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One to two years of experience in a laboratory, analytical testing, manufacturing quality, or quality assurance environment preferred.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic mathematical and analytical skills.
• Strong lab skills, hand dexterity and proficiency with precision equipment
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to accurately follow written test methods, specifications, procedures, and work instructions.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft applications and the ability to learn and effectively use business and manufacturing systems, including MES and Blue Yonder.
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read and interpret reports, specifications, test results, and information displayed electronically.

The employee must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position. These functions may include sitting, standing, and walking for various periods throughout the workday, including movement through manufacturing and warehouse areas.

The position may require reaching above shoulder height and below the waist, bending, lifting, and ascending or descending stairs, ladders, or approved work platforms at heights greater than 4 feet. The employee may also be required to file documents, store materials, and lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Appropriate safety practices and lifting techniques must be followed.

The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) based on the work area and task, PPE may include eyewear, hearing protection, bump cap, high vis vest or shirt, fall-protection equipment and steel-toe or composite-toe safety footwear.

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $41,600 USD - $52,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
