Job Description

Our Quality Team is currently looking to add a Quality Inspector to support Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Substation construction projects across multiple locations in Canada.

Reporting functionally to the Quality Manager, Substations, and operationally to the assigned Project Manager, this role is responsible for managing Quality activities on Valard’s BESS and Substation construction sites. This includes inspecting electrical, civil, and structural installations; implementing Valard’s Quality Program and Quality Management System; and compiling Progressive Turnover Packages in accordance with contractual and client requirements.

Please Note: This is a field-based role, with regular travel to active project sites across Canada working a 14 days on / 7 days off or 21 days on / 7 days off shift with 10 hour days. Applicants must be willing to travel extensively and hold a valid driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities on active construction sites
  • Implement the Company Quality Manual, project-specific Quality Plans, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Support project teams on Quality-related matters to ensure compliance with contractual, client, and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with internal Valard stakeholders, Clients, Engineers, and subcontractor Quality representatives
  • Review assemblies and installations for completeness and conformance with IFC drawings and specifications
  • Identify, document, and track deficiencies; monitor corrective actions
  • Perform minor deficiency repairs where qualified and authorized
  • Identify and track damaged or non-conforming materials
  • Coordinate with Materials Management on repair or replacement of non-conforming materials
  • Maintain the Master Punch List
  • Assemble Progressive Turnover and QA/QC documentation packages

Inspection scope includes, but is not limited to: works and site preparation; Grounding systems; Site drainage and underground infrastructure; Foundations and concrete works; Structural steel fabrication, welding, and erection; Substation equipment installation; BESS equipment installation and integration; Electrical cabling and wiring; Control buildings and auxiliary systems; Fencing and security systems; Pre-commissioning and commissioning support

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in Construction Quality Assurance / Quality Control position
  • We may also consider candidates with related construction experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing to travel to project sites across Canada

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Power systems experience including Substations, BESS, Transmission, or Distribution
  • Experience with civil, structural, and electrical installations
  • Experience with Concrete, piling, and earthworks
  • Trade certification or professional designation (CET, EIT, P.Eng.)
  • Strong technical document interpretation skills
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu or SharePoint

Benefits

This position offers an hourly rate of $38 - $48, depending on experience and qualifications.
