Job Description

& Responsibilities

Performs inspection duties to assure that all received raw materials and parts as well as fabricated parts received for repairs are in accordance with the quality standards established by Elliott Quality Assurance Procedures Manual and International Standards ISO-9001. This position works closely with Shop Operations and Shop Engineers to deliver a quality product to our customers. Has the experience and skillset to plan and oversee the workload in a safe and timely manner, with very minimal supervision or feedback. Helps train other employees in the functions and processes required.

Responsibilities:

  • Validate the quality of fabricated parts, and assemblies in terms of dimensional accuracy and visual verification according to acceptance criteria. Experience in generating and verify results of inspection reports.

  • Promotes safety and quality at all times.

  • Flexible and responsive with a strong teamwork orientation.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times when working with internal and external customers.

  • Experienced and able to hold level II certification in nondestructive training practices and inspection processes including but not limited to: penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, eddy current or x-ray.

  • Fully capable of reading and comprehending drawings, sketches, work scopes, and verbal instructions.

  • Sign off on work scopes and complete supporting quality documents.

  • Verify material test reports against Elliott specifications. Check for correct material being used to manufacture parts.

  • Maintain and schedule calibration of shop tooling, ovens, tables, and gages and calibrate shop employee tooling.

  • Serializes new shafts and new impellers.

  • Fully capable of accurately assessing and documenting a visual and dimensional inspection of internal and vendor newly manufactured parts and repairs of all types of rotating equipment. Including but not limited to, inspecting parts for reverse engineering and inspecting impellers pre and post spin.

  • Advanced knowledge and accuracy in using various measuring devices: micrometers, indicators, calipers, gauges, and other required tools necessary to perform the job.

  • Able to accurately measure and record all critical clearances and dimensions on turbines, compressors, and any other equipment necessary.

  • Able to pass the annual dimensional inspection test.

  • Able to understand and process documentation associated with turbo machinery such as inspection reports, photo logs, and hold tags.

  • Advance knowledge of lifting, rigging, crane and forklift operations.

  • Trains other hourly employees in processes and procedures.

  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in company provided educational material, training, and reading technical publications.

  • Accepts ownership over work performance and stays abreast of job knowledge and new skill development.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency

  • 10 + years’ experience with rotating equipment / turbomachinery such as turbines and compressors

  • Experience with tight tolerance inspections

  • Certified in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

  • Experience with Ultrasonic Testing and Magnetic Particle Testing
