Brief Description

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing focus in receiving, support in-process, and final inspections to ensure that materials, components, welding, painting, and finished machines comply with company standards, engineering drawings, and customer specifications. The inspector must be capable of interpreting technical drawings in both inch and metric systems, performing dye penetrant testing, controlling and following up on nonconforming materials, supporting DCI activities, contributing to 5S initiatives, monitoring calibration status of inspection instruments, support maintain compliance with ISO standards and procedures and documenting inspections with photographic evidence and dimensional records.

Key Responsibilities

2. Dimensional Inspection

  • Interpret and review technical drawings (inch and metric systems).
  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments including: (Calipers, Internal and external micrometers, Measuring tapes, PI tape, Durometer (hardness testing), Profilometers, thread gauges, indicators and other calibrated inspection instruments
  • Ensure compliance with tolerances and geometric requirements.
  • Verify calibration status of inspection tools before use.
  • Develop and utilize specific dimensional inspection forms/templates to record measurement results when required.
  • Ensure dimensional reports are accurate, traceable, and properly maintained as quality records.
  • Communicate dimensional deviations to Engineering and Production when necessary.
  • 3. Welding and Painting Inspection
  • Perform visual inspection of welds in accordance with applicable codes and project specifications.
  • Verify weld size, profile, workmanship, and surface condition.
  • Conduct Dye Penetrant Testing (PT) as required.
  • Inspect surface preparation and painting quality (visual and thickness checks).
  • Ensure proper documentation of inspection results and NDE reports.
  • 4. Final Machine Inspection
  • Perform final inspection of assembled machines and equipment.
  • Verify dimensional, mechanical, visual, and functional requirements.
  • Maintain photographic records of critical parts (e.g., rolls) and final machine assemblies as objective evidence of conformity.
  • Ensure inspection documentation is complete prior to release.
  • Confirm compliance with customer and internal quality requirements.
  • 5. Nonconformance Management
  • Open, document, and close Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Clearly document findings and objective evidence.
  • Ensure nonconforming products are identified, segregated, and controlled according to company procedures.
  • Follow up on nonconformities to ensure proper disposition, corrective actions, and effective closure.
  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor NCR status and ensure timely resolution.
  • 6. DCI Support
  • Provide support in DCI (Disassembly control inspection) activities when required.
  • Assist in review, verification, and compilation of inspection documentation packages.
  • 7. Compliance, 5S, and Maintenance Support
  • Follow company procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure activities are performed in accordance with the Quality Management System.
  • Support implementation and sustainment of 5S initiatives in the inspection area.
  • Provide support to maintenance activities when required to ensure equipment and inspection tools remain in proper working condition.
  • Inform management of any procedural gaps, discrepancies, or improvement opportunities.
  • Proactively suggest process improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and compliance.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, and local/state safety requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety, environmental, and legal requirements in operational environments.
  • Competence in risk assessment methodologies (JSA, HIRA, FMEA, HAZOP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industrial safety systems, equipment safety, and preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis (RCA, 5 Why, Fishbone, etc.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations, waste management, and pollution prevention.
  • Ability to monitor environmental risks and ensure compliance with permits and environmental standards.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Technical education in Quality, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or experience equivalent.
  • 3-5 years Minimum experience in Quality inspection within machining, fabrication, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings in both inch and metric systems.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of welding inspection practices.
  • Understanding of calibration systems and traceability.
  • Knowledge of 5S methodology
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems preferred.
