Job Description

TITLE: Quality Inspection Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Quality Foreman


SUPERVISES: Quality Inspectors


AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the direction of Quality Inspectors and all quality assurance functions for production related activities.
  • Assist in auditing; the administration, including implementation and maintenance to regulatory quality requirements & standards for production departments.
  • Monitoring performance according to quality standards, working with production foreman and supervisors to communicate and address the issues.
  • Performing non destructive tests, including visual inspections (VT) magnetic particle (MT), liquid penetrant (PT), ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic testing (RT). This position is required to perform inspections, to maintain schedule.
  • Assist in identifying & implementing projects that improve overall production quality.
  • Assist in the development & implementation of quality metrics.
  • Assist Quality Technicians, as required to support production.
  • This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive and employee will also perform other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • NDT qualifications required: Visual Inspection Level I &II (SNT-TC-1A Level II).
  • NDT qualifications strongly preferred: Ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic testing (RT) Level I&II (SNT-TC-1A Level II).
  • High School diploma / GED required.
  • Minimum of at least 2 years of experience in shipbuilding.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Physical requirements:

  • Standing: 30% of the time, sitting: 30% of the time, walking about 40% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 10 lbs for 5% of the working day.
  • Hazards and dangers normal for shipbuilding environment.
  • Noise, heat, dust, and fumes normal for shipbuilding environment.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Will supervise the work of others.


DISCRETION EXERCISED: Will give recommendations to correct and discipline, recommend pay increase, transfers, promotions, discharges, and process grievances.

LIAISES WITH: Production departments, Project department, Quality Department Foreman, surveyors, and clients
