The Quality Engineer is responsible for the implementation, control, and assurance of quality processes across construction activities on a nuclear project. The role ensures that all works are delivered in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications, maintaining full traceability from material receipt through to final handover documentation. Operating within a highly regulated environment, the Quality Engineer provides governance over documentation, supports technical interpretation of requirements, and ensures that quality records accurately reflect the as-built condition of the works

Implement and maintain quality processes in line with RCC-M, EN ISO 3834-2, and project-specific specifications.

Provide oversight of quality compliance across fabrication, installation, and testing activities.

Conduct audits, surveillance, and process reviews to ensure adherence to approved procedures.

Documentation Control & Traceability

Manage and control QA documentation including:

  • Follow-Up Documents (FUDs)
  • Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs)
  • Ensure all documentation maintains the golden thread of traceability from design through to installation and testing.
  • Maintain QA registers and trackers, ensuring accuracy and real-time status visibility.

FUD & Work Pack Integration

Lead the preparation, review, and issue of FUDs, ensuring:

  • Alignment with scope and test limits
  • Clear inspection and acceptance criteria
  • Compliance with applicable codes and client requirements
  • Support integration of FUDs within Construction Work Packs (CWPs) and LTQR structure.

Non-Conformance Management

Administer the NCR process end-to-end:

  • Initiation and classification
  • Root cause analysis
  • Definition and implementation of corrective actions
  • Close-out and lessons learned
  • Ensure timely escalation of quality issues and effective resolution with stakeholders.

Technical Support & Interpretation

  • Support project teams in interpreting codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Provide guidance on quality requirements related to welding, NDT, fabrication, and installation.
  • Ensure consistent application of requirements across all work fronts.

Interface & Coordination

  • Coordinate RFIs and ensure timely responses from engineering and client stakeholders.
  • Liaise with QC Engineers and inspectors to ensure inspection outcomes are captured within QA systems.
  • Interface with engineering, construction, and client representatives to maintain alignment on quality expectations.

Health, Safety & Culture

  • Promote and support a strong HSE culture within all QA activities.
  • Ensure quality processes reinforce safe and compliant working practices.

Any other reasonable tasks as requested by the line manager

Experience – Mandatory

Qualifications – Mandatory

  • Experience in QA engineering or quality management roles on large construction projects.
  • Proven track record managing FUDs, NCRs, RFIs, and quality documentation in a regulated environment.
  • Experience in nuclear, oil & gas, or similarly high-integrity industries.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, RCC-M, and nuclear QA frameworks.
  • Degree/ONC/HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Quality, or related field (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and document management systems (Teamcenter, SharePoint, Proarc, SOMINS).
  • CSWIP Level 3.1 / 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector
  • CCNSG

Experience – Desirable

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Strong background in document control, traceability, and LTQR compilation.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with pipe standards and specifications
  • Radiographic interpretation
  • Computer literate; knowledge of Microsoft Office suite essential
  • Understanding of fabrication, welding and NDT techniques
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification
  • Member of Chartered Quality Institute
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
