Job Description

CEL Critical Power – Powering the AI Revolution

CEL Critical Power is a global provider of mission-critical power solutions operating at the center of the AI, hyperscale data center and critical infrastructure ecosystem. An Irish-based manufacturer, distributor and exporter of electrical switchgear, controls and related products with over 40 years of experience, CEL is now firmly focused on supplying the global data center industry at scale. Operating from our 500,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Williamsburg, Virginia, we aim to double in size each year for the next three years.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer supports product and process quality across CEL’s PDU, RPP, and switchgear operations. The role ensures products meet customer, engineering, regulatory, and company requirements while supporting ISO 9001 compliance and continuous improvement.

Scope of the Role

The Quality Engineer will work with Production, Engineering, Test, Supply Chain, and Quality personnel to ensure products meet customer, engineering, regulatory, and company requirements. The role will develop effective inspection controls, resolve non-conformances, analyze quality performance, and support a compliant ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Product & Process Quality

  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, checklists, acceptance criteria, and quality records for incoming, in-process, and final inspection.
  • Provide hands-on quality support for PDU, RPP, and switchgear manufacturing, including wiring, torque, busbar, grounding, labeling, workmanship, and configuration verification.
  • Review drawings, electrical schematics, bills of material, specifications, work instructions, and engineering changes for clear and verifiable quality requirements.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

  • Lead investigations of internal, supplier, test, field, and customer quality issues using tools such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and 8D.
  • Manage NCR, MRB, containment, corrective action, and effectiveness-verification activities through closure.
  • Analyze defect, rework, scrap, first-pass yield, and right-first-time data to identify trends and improvement priorities.

QMS, Audits & Compliance

  • Support implementation and maintenance of an ISO 9001-aligned Quality Management System, including document control, internal audits, risk-based thinking, and continual improvement.
  • Support compliance with applicable customer, UL, electrical, and product requirements, including UL 891 where applicable.

Supplier & Customer Quality

  • Support supplier qualification, performance monitoring, corrective actions, and improvement activities for critical electrical and mechanical components.
  • Investigate customer complaints and field issues, coordinate containment, prepare technical responses, and verify corrective-action effectiveness.

Continuous Improvement

  • Use quality tools, process data, and shop-floor observation to reduce defects, rework, variation, and manufacturing risk.
  • Support first-of-a-kind builds, prototypes, new product introduction, and employee training on inspection criteria and defect prevention.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, checklists and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead investigations using 5 Whys, Ishikawa and 8D methodologies.
  • Manage NCR, MRB, containment, corrective actions and effectiveness verification.
  • Support ISO 9001 QMS, internal audits and continual improvement.
  • Support supplier qualification and customer complaint resolution.
  • Analyze quality metrics including defects, scrap, rework and first-pass yield.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5–7 years of Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related manufacturing quality experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, internal auditing, non-conformance control, corrective action, and risk-based quality planning.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, bills of material, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, statistical process control, process capability, FMEA, control plans, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP, QMS, or manufacturing data systems.

Preferred

  • Experience with PDUs, RPPs, switchgear, control panels, power distribution systems, or electromechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of UL 891, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, or related electrical product requirements.
  • ASQ CQE/CQA, ISO 9001 Auditor, Six Sigma Green Belt, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with supplier quality, first article inspection, and new product introduction.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform inspection tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity to use inspection tools and safely handle components.
