Job Description

The Quality Engineer supports manufacturing operations by ensuring product quality, process compliance, and timely resolution of quality issues. This role partners with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to investigate nonconformances, support root cause analysis, drive corrective actions, and reduce defects.

The position also supports Operational Excellence and continuous improvement initiatives through quality data analysis, process improvement activities, audit support, and maintenance of quality documentation. This role is critical to sustaining quality performance, meeting customer and internal requirements, and supporting overall operational success.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015, API Q1, ASTM, and customer-specific standards.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation including procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and forms.
  • Conduct Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA/DFMEA), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Process Capability Studies.
  • Manage calibration and gauge R&R programs for monitoring and measuring equipment.
  • Assist with internal audits, process audits, and support third-party or customer audits.
  • Analyze quality data, perform trend analysis on NCRs and CPARs, and report on metrics such as scrap, rework, and customer escapes.
  • Investigate product and process nonconformities, issue corrective and preventive actions, lead root cause analysis investigations, and support the validation of effectiveness.
  • Develop inspection methods for receiving, in-process, and final product checks.
  • Support training initiatives, maintain training records, and uphold training matrix accuracy.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) and Risk Assessment activities.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and suppliers for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Assist with annual Management Reviews and strategic quality planning.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering or quality systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, particularly with fiberglass, is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of QMS principles, ISO 9001:2015, and API Q1 standards.
  • Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), and quality tools.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications with tight tolerances.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques and process control strategies.
  • Experience with reinforced plastics is highly desirable as is familiarity with ASME, ASTM or other industry related codes and standards.

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Up to 10% domestic travel may be required for audits, inspections, or training.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and be physically present in manufacturing areas for extended periods.
  • Use of appropriate PPE is required in designated areas.
