Quality Engineer

OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster®. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. The quality of our products and services is critical to the success of our company and our customers. The Quality Engineer will support cross-functional teams to assist in identifying risks, investigating quality problems, identifying, and implementing quality controls, and qualifying new or revised products and processes. The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product quality and specification compliance for new product development and ensuring that suppliers, toll manufacturers and third-party service providers meet OMG and industry quality standards.
Position Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all OMG employees.
- Responsible for the development and execution of qualification plans for new products and changes to existing products and processes.
- Develop and deploy Advanced Product Quality Planning tools including FMEA, Control Plans, Risk Assessments and PPAP.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine the root cause of customer complaints and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze data from a variety of sources to identify quality improvement opportunities and opportunities to reduce the Cost of Poor Quality.
- Drive improvements in the OMG corrective action system that ensures the timely and permanent resolution to all failures and drives compliance with established quality standards.
- Collect and trend-analyze data to establish ongoing manufacturing and quality metrics.
- Active participant in assigned New Product Development Teams and ensure that all quality deliverables are completed as part of the OMG stage gate process.
- Develop and maintain Quality System procedures, including internal and external audit procedures and standardized data collection programs.
- Lead and support product code, regulatory, and compliance activities related to external certification bodies and industry standards.
- Prepare and conduct training related to product quality and quality processes and systems.
- Responsible for supporting elements of the supplier quality program including support of supplier engagement, qualification, suppler monitoring and evaluation, non-conforming material management, root cause analysis and CAPA.

Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technical Engineering discipline.
- Operations/manufacturing experience required.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in leading and implementing quality improvements.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification and demonstrated use of discipline strongly preferred.
- ASQ certifications preferred.
- Proficient PC skills including experience with MS Office Suite, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and statistical software such as Minitab.
- Proficient skills with the SharePoint collaboration platform, for overall administration and program management including access permissions.
- Strong statistical skills, experience using Quality Tools and knowledge of Lean Principles.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with a high degree of quality and accuracy.
- Superior teamwork, communication skills & manufacturing floor presence for execution of core quality support functions, including equipment calibration oversight.
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in high noise areas and wear appropriate hearing protection device.
- Manual material handling involving the need to grip, squeeze, and pinch.
- The position requires the ability to regularly stand for long periods of time.
- The position requires good close vision and depth perception.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 35 pounds.
