Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a Quality Engineer to work on site. This role will work with the Process Leader of Finishing!

Responsibilities

  • Adopt the Novelis Safety Principles to build a zero-injury culture and the Novelis cultural beliefs of Be Open, Build Trust, Say Anything, and Be Authentic.
  • Improve product quality by continuously supervising quality parameters and identifying testing methods & samples.
  • Apply knowledge in design, implementation, optimization, and/or maintenance of production equipment or manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in fulfilling quality standard requirements as planned and ensuring that the desired level of quality is maintained.
  • Conduct quality assurance tests and perform statistical analysis to assess the level of control and run product quality risks.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis of incidents requiring corrective action, ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and are properly documented.
  • Implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment
  • Analyze reports and defective products to resolve trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers to develop and implement methods and procedures for process control and process improvement
  • Develop and implement testing and inspection to ensure that the products are free of flaws and function as designed.
  • Maintain testing equipment and perform product testing and analysis to sustain quality levels and minimize defects and failure rates.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop and implement quality control measures, conduct audits and inspections, and analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science and/or Mechanical.
  • Associates or Technologist degree and/or other cases with confirmed experience in the quality field will be considered
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy industry quality systems with a strong focus on methodical problem-solving and project management.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with FMEA, Control plans, auditing, Work instruction, statistical process control.
  • Solid knowledge and experience with Quality Systems and Auditing (ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949).
  • Available for up to 15% of domestic, noncontinuous travel in the first 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aluminum process experience
  • Experienced in trouble shooting finished product quality and performance issues.
  • Software: SAP, Siemens, OpsCenter, MES systems, SIS (ex. Ametek), PowerBI, Minitab, Visio.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
