Job Description

Digital Control Incorporated (DCI) is the world’s leading supplier of underground locating and steering products for the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) industry. Since the introduction of this revolutionary technology 30 years ago, Digital Control has been at the forefront of trenchless technologies that enable the efficient installation of underground utilities such as fiber optic, telecom, gas, and water lines world-wide. DCI’s products are valued for their durable design, ease of use and uncompromising commitment to customer service.

DCI is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Quality Electronics Technician to join our Quality Team to support quality initiatives across our electronics manufacturing operations. This role requires strong expertise in PCB/electronics repair, component-level root cause analysis, LEAN/Six Sigma methodologies, and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS). The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate nonconforming materials, identify root causes, and repair those parts.
  • Perform troubleshooting down to the component level.
  • Read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams to guide your work. You will also be expected to accurately document all repair and test data.
  • Drive timely resolution of electronics repairs and system quality issues.
  • Devise and/or build shop aids and work around methods as necessary to troubleshoot parts.
  • Collaborate with production, manufacturing design engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve technical and quality concerns.
  • Perform inspections and quality tests as needed to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Support training and development of production staff in quality standards and best practices.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend LEAN-based quality process improvements.
  • Assist in defining, documenting, and updating quality control procedures.
  • Proficiently use a personal computer to perform job tasks, including Microsoft Windows and Office Suite.
  • Ensure you follow appropriate personal safety and ESD prevention protocols.
  • Exemplify and contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical quality role within an electronics or PCB manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced diagnostic equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • An understanding of both analog and digital electronics, including circuit theory, power supplies, and signal integrity.
  • Proven ability to perform component-level soldering and rework on intricate printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS and quality auditing practices.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D).
  • Familiarity with LEAN principles and Six Sigma tools (Green Belt certification preferred).
  • The ability to work under limited supervision, prioritize tasks, and independently solve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with ERP and quality management software is a plus.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Required to lift 15-25 pounds repetitively
  • Willing to work outside as needed

Preferred Certifications (not required):

  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • IPC-A-610 or IPC-7711/7721 certification
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher

If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement, we encourage you to still apply. You may be just the right candidate for this or another role at DCI.
