Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Verification
- Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated piping, welds, and assemblies
- Verify fabricated products, materials, dimensions, and configurations against isometric drawings, spool sheets, and BOMs
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, and Section IX)
- Confirm proper labeling, tagging, and traceability of materials and assemblies
Welding & Fabrication Quality
- Inspect weld quality per visual inspection standards (AWS D10.4 or applicable code)
- Verify weld procedures and welder qualifications are current and compliant
- Identify and document (product) defects or non-conformances
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete inspection reports, checklists, and quality documentation accurately and timely
- Track and log non-conformance reports (NCRs) and assist with corrective actions
- Support digital tracking of fabrication progress and quality metrics (e.g., Stratus, Power BI)
Process Improvement
- Work with fabrication and project teams to identify root causes of quality issues
- Recommend process improvements to reduce rework and increase efficiency
- Assist in developing and refining QA/QC procedures and inspection checkpoints
Material & Equipment Verification
- Inspect incoming materials and equipment for compliance with specifications
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and protection of materials
- Verify that items designated as “ship loose” or pre-assembled are properly identified and handled
Collaboration
- Coordinate with Project Coordinators, VDC/BIM teams, and shop personnel to clarify drawings and expectations
- Participate in fabrication kickoff meetings to align on quality expectations
- Communicate quality issues clearly and professionally to all stakeholders
Qualifications
Required
- Strong understanding of mechanical piping systems (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC)
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, isometrics, and specifications
- Knowledge of ASME piping codes and welding standards
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Preferred
- AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or working toward certification
- Experience with digital fabrication tools (e.g., Stratus, BIM/Revit)
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
- Experience in a fabrication shop or industrial construction environment

Work Environment
- Primarily shop-based with exposure to fabrication equipment and active work areas
- May require standing, walking, and inspecting materials for extended periods
- Occasional lifting and use of inspection tools/equipment
