Job Description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Joby Aviation is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor, Inspection Team to lead shift and functional-area Quality Control and Inspection teams across manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, this role provides daily front-line leadership and hands-on guidance to inspection personnel, ensuring the safety, reliability, and conformity of aircraft parts and assemblies.

Applicant Notice:

  • This is a hands-on, floor-level Quality Control & Inspection supervisory role; it is not a Design Engineering or Quality Engineering position.
  • Candidates must have direct experience supervising or leading physical inspection teams and quality control operations on the shop floor.
  • This general requisition serves as a primary entry point for QC leadership talent.
  • Selected candidates will be screened and aligned to specific functional areas based on technical background.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train assigned Quality Control inspectors and floor leads in daily shift operations.
  • Operational Execution: Coordinate day-to-day receiving, in-process, or final inspection activities to ensure strict compliance with engineering drawings, work instructions, quality plans, and FAA standards.
  • Throughput & Scheduling: Manage daily line support, inspector workload distribution, and priorities to balance quality rigor with production throughput.
  • Nonconformance Control: Act as the first line of escalation for quality issues; oversee shop-floor Material Review Board (MRB) tag generation, containment, and initial nonconforming material dispositioning.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with Production Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, and Quality Engineers to resolve inspection bottlenecks and reduce defect rates.
  • Metrics & Accountability: Monitor key shift metrics (e.g., inspection turnaround time, first-pass yield) to drive continuous floor-level improvements.
  • Compliance & Audits: Assist with root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and shop-floor audit readiness (FAA/QMS).

Required

  • 3+ years of direct experience leading, supervising, or acting as a Lead Quality Inspector in a production environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years, Associate’s degree with 5+ years, or High School Diploma/GED with 8+ years of relevant hands-on QC/inspection experience.
  • Proven track record of supervising, coaching, and qualifying quality inspectors on the shop floor.
  • Strong practical expertise with manufacturing inspection tools, measurement equipment, precision gauges (calipers, micrometers, height gauges), and GD&T principles
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Experience in regulated production environments (Aerospace, Aviation, Automotive, Defense, or Medical Devices).

Applicant Notice:

  • Design engineering or general quality engineering backgrounds without direct, floor-level inspection leadership experience will not qualify for this position.

Desired

  • Working knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements (Part 21/145) and AS9100 / ISO 9001 QMS standards.
  • Hands-on experience executing or approving AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI)
  • Active FAA A&P license, Inspection Authorization (IA), or Level II/III NDT certifications
  • Specialized technical experience in specific functional areas (e.g., composite structures, wire harness/avionics inspection, precision machining, or final aircraft assembly).

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $90,100 - $133,300 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Joby also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a company match, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
