This is a seasonal position, you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round.

This position is responsible to collect, prepare, test, analyze, and document samples in order to determine content and characteristics. Test samples using laboratory apparatus and testing equipment and then entering findings in computer database. This person must excel in customer service through face-to-face interaction and phone calls with various customers, be able to sell or offer advice on available products, and ticket or weigh trucks in a timely manner.

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Schedules may vary depending on weather and customer demand.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

  1. Conduct testing of Company’s products from various locations according to State and/or ASTM standards.
  2. Must be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  3. Ability to enter, read and comprehend data in database. Train if necessary.
  4. Ability to multitask.
  5. Must be able to work varied hours.
  6. Limited travel potentially necessary.
  7. Answering the phone.
  8. Selling various products offered by Knife River.
  9. Data entry of various orders and necessary information into a computer system.
  10. Assisting customers that walk in or call.
  11. Weighing/ticketing trucks in a timely manner.
  12. Calculating quantities of various materials needed for customers’ needs.
  13. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  14. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  15. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  16. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  17. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Strong organizational skills.
  3. Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  4. Able to work independently and under time constraints.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training
  2. AAS degree in civil engineering desirable, or
  3. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. ACI Test Technician certification desirable or will train.
  5. Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  6. Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook software.
  7. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays.
